E90 LCI Upgrade Xenon Bulbs and Halo Rings on Xenon Headlights Only

Guide to upgrading Rings and Bulbs

HALO RINGS BULB REPLACEMENT / UPGRADE E90 LCI XENON HEADLIGHTS

Unlike pre LCI to upgrade the Halo Rings lights there is no need to remove bumper or any trim.

Simply pop open the bonnet and on the back of headlight locate the round cover.

Open this up and this is the Halo Bulb its a 35W. Simply remove the bulb and plug in in my case the LED kit which includes LED and the ballast.

(picture curtesy of SSDD Motorsport)

When you install the bulb it splits into two in order to be closer to the optical channels for the outer rings so dont worry you do have to be quite firm with it and ensure you insert it correctly otherwise it want twist and lock into place.

I found opening the cornering bulb access panel a big help as you can look through and see inside the headlight and the halo bulb opening as you insert the bulb.

Then Simply tuck the ballast in and close the lid.

XENON BULBS REPLACEMENT / UPGRADE E90 LCI

ENSURE BULBS ARE COLD WHEN YOU DO THIS

The headlight bulbs are bit more pain this requires removal of few items.
To make life easier its a case of wheel off on each side, and then remove the front wheel arch liner. There are few screws round the edges and few on the underside. It simply falls off once they are undone so no need to force anything.

HINT: There is a access flap which is used for non xenon cars to change bulbs, take this off first as when you flex the linear the rotating clips can snap.

This will expose the back of the headlight and you can then remove the headlight rear bulb cover. Its a TorX screw head, case of remove the screws and then release a clip to remove the cover.

The LCI bulbs are D1S bulbs so ballast is bult in.

Unclip the metal loom then remove the bulb clip and then remove the bulb.

Reverse the process and then youre done.

Guide is for information only if you do any of this on your car its at your own risk.

Nice write up mate!!

One point to all.....I have a face flift E90 (LCI) which has halogen lights with angel eyes.....

The rear of the lights and the angel eye bulb types is totally different in these cars.

I cant figure out how to get the angel eye bulbs out of my lights...so Im a bit stumped with mine...

I took the pics, but wont bother loading them.

Look at this thread - there are big issues upgrading the LCI Angel eye bulbs -

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...d+bulb+e90+lci

The Yanks have been all over it for the past 6 mths, but no joy as yet.

Those are for the E90 LCI Halogen headlights actually. There is a solution coming out very shortly for these however - LUX LCI halogen. they will be sold by NAMotrosports

Yes, I know (see post no3!!).

Im looking forward to seeing these bulbs! I have to get rid of the yellow angel eyes!

Also - do you know how to actually remove the bulbs? I cannot see the heads on the screws. are they philips or hex? Ive tried both but no joy!

the halo ring upgrade has been much harder than you make it out to be. unless u're a midget, ur hands can't possibly fit in without removing the two pumps (passenger side) and the metal frame (driver side).

hi which bits do you mean, considering I have hands size of small rackets and not nimble due to way too many years as defensive tackle I had no problems. on the airbox size you can make life easier removing the top of the airbox but I had no probelems just removing the cap,

Ofcourse if you dont have xenons than the ring is a right pain

Maybe it is different under the hood for the e90s in the UK, but this is what I was talking about. (See pics)

If you look at my picure the area behind the headlight is empty, so its either tight work or remove the bracket first I suppose

If you are upgrading the Angel eye bulb, i would recomend the LUX H8 for you. It is the brightest on the market and 100% plug and play

Follow the link in my sig for more pics and info
