Car Wont Engage D/S Mode!
Help Guys!
So for some reason, I moved the shift lever to the left to put the car into D/S (manual) mode in my E92 328xi and the lever moves to the left and moves up and down but it would engage to sport mode... the M1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 dont even show up nor does the D/S symbol.... What went wrong here! I have been using my M6 Retro Fitted Knob with the new harness for about 6 months now and it was fine, I put all the wiring out and put it back to stock and it still doesnt work... I am hoping to save a trip to the dealer... any tips would help! thanks! |

It has to do with the wiring of the gear indicator ( black thing with P R N D ) when this is not conected you cant engage the d/s. Can you switch gears in D with the steering padle?

That's how my car acted when I drove it with the center console removed for a day and just a shift knob on top of the metal stick with most wiring not hooked up (I was rewiring some other things and ran out of time before going to work). I may have had another cable hooked in as it was on loosely to the side, I think, but d/s wasn't working for sure. Regardless, OP, I'd check all of your connectors.

+1 on checking the gear indicator. I stuffed mine deep into the console but taped it up so it wouldn't move around and cause potential problems like this. Also, check the wiring around it.

Did you ever figure out what caused the this because i have the same problem and took it to the dealership and they said they needed to replace the whole shifter. Im out of warrenty and it would cost 900 bucks. Im sure there is no need to replace the entire shifter and im looking to find a much cheaper solution.

I'm having the same problem on my 335i. Any fix besides replacing the whole shifter assembly?
