Removing my Msport shift knob...help!

I just got my E90 with the Msport package (loving it!). I bought the weighted e46 ZHP weighted shift knob before I bought the car and before I was set on getting the Msport. So now I want to swap them out. When I pull up on the shift knob to remove it, I get the feeling the little metal/plastic chrome rim might break.

I wouldn't care except it's a lease, and I don't want to have to deal with it in 3 yrs when I return the car.

Anybody have advice for a nice clean way to remove the shifter?

I just stuck it in 4th gear, grabbed firmly with both hands, and pulled up. It's on there really good. If you're still struggling, hit the gym. LOL

Garage List
I had to straddle the center console, with the sunroof open, and then I just pulled really hard. Similar to doing a squat.

OK, I got it off. But the boot and shift knob seem to be almost sealed together by that metal ring on the outside with a white plastic ring on the inside...looks like unless I break the ring, these things aren't coming apart....hoping somebody can tell me I'm wrong
