335i blown tire.

today was the first highway to my e92 335. and suddenly boom a tire blows. i was crusing at about 140km/h (85mph) and suddenly i hear a pssss sound and inmediatly the sign of a flat in the dashboard. it is very strange you can see it on the picture. the rim is very dirty but it is intact. i dont remember hiting anything on the road.
Well RFT.... i manage to get to a BMW and as i imagine the tire is trash..... they have it on stock. but at a little bit more of 400usd......

Good thing you had RFTs or it could have been worse AND you would not have been able to make it to the dealers.

Thank god for RFTs.

I can't believe so many people are getting rid of them.

You said it was the right front?

Would you say it was somewhat controlable once it lost pressure? I would think it's much better than a non-run-flat...

Yeah they are, you can tell RE050 is one of their tire names.

You can get the tire here on tire rack for under $400. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes....enza+RE050+RFT

That's an odd puncture. Any idea how it happened? Did the dealer shed any light?
You should buy a full set of almost new tires at that price from the people selling the tires & rims if they will split it up. I'm looking for a set of the sport pack rims minus the tires.

That is from a hitting a steel plate, or similar pointed corner sticking up in the road. You probably hit it doing about 50-60, and it creates a weak spot in the sidewall of the tire, which then expands until it does just what it did.

I see this ALL the time (I'm a BMW tech.) It's not a faulty tire. It's just poor luck.

$400 usd for total bill, or $400 usd to buy the tire, then extra for installation?

If $400 total, that's normal for RFT tires. if it was $400 just to buy the tire, DAMN. You got SCREWED. Should have been under $300.

It is a left rear tire.
thanks for the replays.

400usd just the tire.... yes i know it is very very expensive. that tire in mexico Bridgestone dosent sell it.... So i have it to buy it at the dealer(it was on stock). I could buy it at tire rack.... but the ship will take much time.

My car cost me about 10k more than USA.... and all the accesories and replacement parts are much more expensive than that. Well i have seen in parts of the world that just the car cost almost double than the states. i dont want to imagine how much are the parts.

i had one of my rear 18s replaced at the dealership, it cost me like $541 out the door. they said the tire itself is like $300+ and the mounting is their rimless technology (replacing a flat w/o touching the rim , so it won't scratch it). i know i got ripped off pretty badly, but i needed it and couldn't wait to order from tirerack.

$541 is insane. Tire Rack is $250 for the rear tire, plus $15 for shipping. Discount Tire will match Tire Rack's price, if you have one around you, and then they charge about $20 to mount and balance. PLus you get free prorated road hazard. Sorry if this seems like a plug for Discount Tire, but they always treat me right.
