Stupid Idea: Supercharger on the N54

Just day-dreaming here, seeing if others will join me:

I'm thinking drop the turbos, get a 6-1 exhaust manifold that has better flow characteristics (possibly from the N52 ), maybe a new intake mani or maybe just adapt to the existing one, somehow rig an FMIC, drop a Vortec V-3 on there and you should be pushing 700+whp

Potential positives:
-quicker throttle response
-shorter charge pipes
-better exhaust flow characteristics
-potentially cheap

Potential negatives:
-less efficient
-worse fuel economy
-supercharger whine
-need new belts

Discuss, I've got my flame suit on.

I hope your flame suit is extra thick. But 700whp on pump gas from a 3.0L motor on a centri blower is ummmm........ unlikely.

The new S4 with a 3.0L and a supercharger is at about half of your HP goal...good luck with the second half.

Oh...and WHY? Even if you could source the parts and do the build...good luck with a tune to make it work.

It's because turbo = cheap top end power.

Actually, I think a better idea might be dropping one of the turbos and adding a supercharger instead. I cant remember exactly who but a few companies have done the turbo/blower hybrid setup. However I think it will be wayy more trouble than its worth.

One company that comes to mind is Helix...they made a hybrid turbo/supercharger Mini Cooper if my memory serves me correctly.

The old Cooper S's camed sc'd, so they added a turbo.

They did make a twurbo setup but it didnt make nearly the power a single 2876 makes so no one ever runs that setup anymore.

small turbo/s for response, big turbo/s for power. S/C is a waste unless you are just making a big engine (V8 V10 V12) a little better without adding lag. Trying to go turbo+S/C is just a huge waste of money, headache, and time.

do it like wolkswagen TFSI 1.6L 160PS engine is a great solution they achieve 1.6BAR at 1000RPM

small blower that gives immediate response no lag and torque at low RPM
Use one single big turbo for the 6 cylinders to give lot of boost and torque till redline.

But difficult charge pipe: blower should blow on the intake of the big turbo, and when the big turbo kicks in (3000 - 4000 RPM) the intake of the turbo should be open to the intake filter via a valve
