Seen a car but no 6FL ~ retrofit?
Hi All,
I've seen a grey 335d msport saloon with red brown leather. I like it but 6FL isn't listed as an option, but it's a must for me as I really want to be able to stick an Hdd in the arm rest with all my tunes on :-) Can this be retro fitted and if so, is it cheap enough to ask a dealer to fit it as a condition of sale? Cheers! Last edited by BanziBarn; 11-20-2009 at 11:17 AM.. |

Local dealer quoted me £900 so I went for a non-BMW retrofit (MoBridge) instead to use my iPhone through car stereo: Although I've never used it for anything but iPhone / iPods, IIRC, it does have a USB input on it.

You will have to select the HDD carefully to ensure it works... lots don't and only some do.

Thanks guys.
Yep, I've got a list of compatible HDDs so thats good. 6FL is normally in the armrest right? Can it just be lead into the glove box for an easier and therefore cheaper install? |

I have been looking into this. I have 6FL on my X5, and it is fantastic, but my wifes 320d doesn't have it.
My local dealer says no retrofit avalible. He says it's something that is being requested all the time and BMW are looking into making a kit avalible. Don't know whether this is true or BS. My local hifi place says you need a Dension Gateway 500 control box fitted. It's £500 and gives you full control of iPod through idrive just like 6FL. I am thinking this might be the route to go, but cost is putting me off. Anyone had the done? Stu. |

OK, let's get a few facts straight here.
1. BMW dealers are useless cunts who really don't know the products they are selling. 2. BMW dealers are useless cunts who can't be bothered to learn and understand the tools and products available to them. 3. The 6FL is available as a retfofit on every BMW that has is an option from the factory. 4. If your car has bluetooth, but DOES NOT have professional Nav, you will already have the module needed in your car, all that is needed is £80 worth of parts and for the dealer to code it. 5. If your car has professional nav you will need to buy an MULF2 module and the £80 kit, bad news is the MULF2 is £600, so you are looking at £600+80+coding (which is around 2 hours) so close to £900 all in. So, don't NOT buy a car because it doesn't have the usb option, however, you need to know your BMW dealers are not CUNTS before knowing for sure you can get it retrofitted. This is the 6FL retrofit install instructions, maybe print them out and give them to your local dealer, and tell them they're fuckin' usless!! USB Retrofit Don't worry, I'll be here all week to help and slag off useless dealers who are happy to take our money as long as they don't have to do any work!! |

Oh, one other thing, the Dension 500 is superb, I have been using it in my Audi for 9 months now and it is quicker to navigate than the factory system.
You can get one from ebay for £300, if you have CD changer it will be plug and play, if you don't you will need your dealer to code your head unit to accept a CD changer, a dealer will want a changer in your car to do this, a local garage who use the "autologic diagnostic" system however will be able to do it without a change installed and charge you for 30 mins, so probably £35 vs £110 from a main dealer. |

Indie coding for a changer is £65+VAT versus a stealer charge of £190+VAT for a full vehcile software update.

If you have got an ipod you could go for the BMW ipod retrofit kit which costs £190 + fitting (1.5 hours).

Anyone have it - I guess it just replicates the CD changer function - how does this look in iDrive - like you have 100s of CDs? or does it properly change the function in the Entertainment section of idrive? Anyone got the retrofit instructions for this (i.e. assuming its quite different to the 6FL above) EDIT - answer to my own question - search! http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...32&postcount=7 |

More answers to my own questions:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...8&d=1183954971 This explains how it uses CD1, CD2, etc. functions to control the ipod. Also explains which ipods it works with. This seems like a good option if you don't need the full USB functions of 6FL. Whats the best price fitted from a dealer? £300? Looks like only 1 hr plus coding. |

I have bluetooth, but do not have professional Nav, so that sounds like an £80 cable and some coding could do the trick. I am also feeling your anger towards the stealers. I will try them again in the morning, with my new knowledge, to see if they will be more helpful. Thanks for your help. |

Hi there. I just bought a late -06 325d Msport with this configuration (BT+business navi). Can you elaborate a little on what this means? Do I get a cable in the glovebox or cradle in the armrest or something else?

It just means that you have the bluetooth module in the boot already which is the combined bluetooth/usb one.
Have a look at the retrofit... USB Retrofit You still need to add the cable and port but you don't have to spend £600 getting the right module as you already have it. |

You code the radio/nav.
That is the hub/brain of the car when it comes to adding stuff on the most bus network, the network is not actually connected to anything in the car, the coding port under the glovebox goes straight to the radio. The dealer will know how to code it. |
