I agree, I bet whoever's responsible for the poor design and layout, they are getting pretty money for the job.
It should be less than 20 seconds for viewers to be able to build any car on it, instead all I see on their site is fancy words popping out everywhere to jazz up the bimmer pictures. I think Audi has better website in terms of functionality.

I think it is Blast Radius. At least it used to be their contract a couple of years ago or so.

The new (Java-based) configurator is a total embarrassment. The euro Java-based one is pretty bad, but for some reason they've made a special effort to make the Canadian version even less usable.

It is horrible and makes both Safari and FireFox crash on my MacBook Pro.

I tried to build a 335d yesterday and it wouldn't accept the sport package wheels so I could see what it would look like.

I thought their build system is the same one used in the BMW international site?

Also, if you browse the "Owner" section, there's all the accessories available, but some are not "retrofit-able", which means the feature list is somewhat useless...

Yeah clearly, it's a sign of lack of communication between them or just pure neglect to do anything about it.

The site is beyond awful especially the build section and I bet it's turning away a lot of potential customers who must get frustrated with the load times and crashes. Is it really that hard to design a site in this day and age that looks good but is easy to use?

I don't know why they don't simply replicate the US site. The images in the configurator don't look great, but at least it works 100% reliably and they're not dumb enough to use Java.

I already did. Got a generic reply:

At budd's BMW in the parts department they have CDs so you can build your own car with performance and accessories parts, you can print out the final mod'd car but it does not give you prices or part numbers nor does it explain what the performance part does for your car.

On the other hand it's free and it's better then nothing.
