How to dyno E90 330i auto

I tried to get the E90 330i auto on the dyno past weekend but everytime they tried to make a run the car would downshift. The set up- DTC was off and trans in step mode, tried in 3 and 4, even tried from 4500 rpm. Everytime the trans would downshift. What is the secret?

not sure about the dyno, but i think what you want to do is no depress the pedal pass the point where it clicks and does the kick down. hope that helps.

I would assume that you would turn traction control all of the way off and then click over to manual mode...

if it kicks down in manual mode, that's a crummy transmission right there

I had a step in my '01 330ci, and test drove step 335ci, both in manual mode will down shift if kick down is reached. I wish this was not the case, but it is. Nevertheless, it is the best auto i have ever driven, including 996tt with tiptronic.

edit: And no, my porsche is not auto, though auto is the reason I am returning to BMW.

I've read/heard so many rave reviews about Porsche's tiptronic, and you think BMW's step is better than the tip eh?

To be honest, on my e46, shifting on the step was pretty slow, but the new step with the paddles or not, was so fast, I was shocked. I missed shifting after while, so returned to it with the porsche. at the same time a buddy got the 996tt in tiptronic. It definitely shifted faster than the e46, but couldnt touch the e92.

With that said, I drove the e46 smg just before the e92 step and think the auto shifted faster than the smg in all but the fastest setting. (and much smoother). And downshifting is great now that it blips the throttle.

After that I was sold. I will never say auto, even this good, is better than manual. Even though the argument can be made that most will drive faster in the auto, manual's are more fun. BUT, some can't sacrifice it full time and this is one hell of an alternative.

There you have it. Everyone here thinks that if you drive an auto you dont care about sport driving or are not a true enthusiast, but that is horse shit. (and for another thread)

OP does understand manual mode. Test ur auto- put in manual mode, take to 4000-4500 rpm and then WOT (wide open throttel) see if your auto make downshift in the manual mode. FYI we tried in 3rd and 4th gear. Post ur results.

Hunter- did they program the computer to hold ur auto in 4th gear? Please give me company # that dyno ur car.
