Digital Speed Reading on dash
How do you get a digital speed reading on your screen of how fast you're traveling. I've seen it on our cars.

as mentioned, the m3 displays the real speed. the 335 only displays average speed.
the screenshot posted is from dmurray14's car (335). he used special equipment to get his car to display real digital speed like the m3. Last edited by jpsimon; 12-05-2009 at 03:17 PM.. |

Follow these insturctions. Menu 8.00 will show you the real speed.
Found these instructions somewhere on here, can't find the original thread: You have two options of getting in to the service menu: Option 1: 1: Ignition on or start your car 2: Press and hold the button to reset the daytrip/odometer for 10 seconds 3: You will see a menu appearing on your board computer stating "01.00" Option 2: 1: Press and hold the button to reset the daytrip/odometer 2: Put the keyfob in its slot 3: You will see a menu appearing on your board computer stating "01.00" Now comes the fun part. In the board computer you will see the "XX.YY" entry, when starting this will be "01.00". From there you can navigate with the daytrip/odometer button (I'll just call it button from now on): a. Press the button repeatedly to select the main menu option (XX) b. Upon reaching the desired option in the main menu wait for about 2 seconds to select the sub menu (YY). c. Again press the button to select the sub menu entry (YY). d. To get back to the main entry menu press and hold the button for about 2 seconds. f. To leave the service menu press and hold the button for 10 seconds or remove the keyfob. To unlock main menu items 03.00 – 21.00: a. Write down your the car ID displayed in menu 01.00. b. Go to menu item 19.00. c. Use the button to enter the total of the last 5 digits of the car code that was found under menu 01.00, so for example: Car Number: XXXXXX12345 / Unlockcode = 1+2+3+4+5=15. d. ???Lock off“ will now be displayed. e. Items 03.00 – 21.00 will remain unlocked untill you remove the keyfob. And now for the functions you can access. Again, this is for European cars, I don't know if this works on the US ones: 01.00 FGSTNR - Manufacturing number 01.01 K-ZAHL W/T - ? 01.02 BMWTNR BMW Part number 01.03 COD DIA - Diagnostic code? 01.04 KI HSTL DATUM - Manufacturing date? 01.05 HW AEI - ? 01.06 SW - Software version? 01.07 KODIERDATEN - ? 01.08 CAN - ? 02.00 KI TEST - Kombined Test. Ok, I unlocked the menu and was able to get to the 08:00 setting (which is in km/hr).
Not sure though how I add it to the available display modes when I cycle through them with the stalk button. I got to 08:00 and tried different things like holding the odo button in but no luck.

no, no DIY. From the way it sounded, I think it requires special equipment that very few people have access to. So there would be no point in a DIY. I'm sure he'll poke his head in here and give a little more details

For 'start' hit the enter key and then the left mouse button. And if you have a Palm Pre, you can do some coolness with the code.

Guys, this pic is on a car that has been modified with some equipment to change values in the cluster. It's not something you can do at home unfortunately I posted it in another thread discussing the ability of some cluster values to be changed, as proof they can be with the right equipment. The M3 clusters do have this feature standard, but the 335's don't. I never really understood why, as it's such a useful feature. Sorry to get your hopes up!
