BT retrofit without SA640?

Hi,

I have a 2009 and do not have 0640 (Phone Preparation) on the buildsheet. Am I doomed if I want to retrofit Bluetooth? Do I have to wait for Mobridge to come out with new firmware?

No firmware will take care of the missing wiring in your car.

There should be a full OEM 640 + ULF retrofit available already in Europe, as the full OEM alarm retrofit is already out over there. Your dealer should know, especially in Canada as in the USA those retrofits are not offered for some stupid reason.

Ask Rover Active on Ebay as well; if this retrofit is already available in Europe he can get it from there.

OK, will do.

Screw the wiring, I guess I'll have to wait for mobridge to figure out how '09s work

I think that if your 2009 is missing the 640 wiring then it is missing as well the 694... you need the 694 to connect the mObridge.

What is 694?

edit: 0694 == CD Changer Preparation. No, I don't, but I have 0693 (Sat Prewire). Shouldn't it only require a position in the MOST loop?

It seems to me that all the MOST messaging of the mObridge iPod/BT unit is based on the CDC protocol and not the Sat. Although using the SAT MOST gate could be in theory the same -it is a ring, after all- I don't think that you can code the car for a CD Changer thru the Sat gate without an error... you will need both connected for the coding to proceed.

I thought mObridge provided all the wiring that was needed and the unit was installed close to or behind the dash and not in the trunk. This is for BT functionality. I also thought the CD option was needed if you wanted the ipod interface. I know they offer both in the same unit but if you don't need the iphone interface I don't see the reason why 0694 is needed.

I was referring to using the Sat gate for coding the CD Changer in lieu of not having the CD Changer MOST gate wiring. What I'm not sure is if by removing the Sat and plugging a CD Changer ISTA/P will allow the coding of the CD Changer. Perhaps it will without any issues...

The car would have to be coded as well for telephone, so it will need a TCU as well.

I think that the behind the dash connection is only for those vehicles without any other MOST device connected to the OEM HU/iDrive as the included mObridge MOST connector is a single plug and not a splitter as shown in their installation document. And that plug requires 12V and ground as well as the fiber optics cables.

Most probably it will require that the mObridge MOST cables be installed to the rear seat MOST splitter as the OEM CD Changer prewiring would be and by tapping the 12V and gound of the Sat connector. I think that at the end of the day it can be done but it will not be as simple as having the CD Changer wiring in place.

Of course, all this is assuming that mObridge will have the MY2009 application available as currently is not.

There is no coding available through the dealer. I have tried. You have sat rad prep standard and there is an additional most bus cable, however there is no other wiring to support adding a tcu in a car without 640. To my knowledge there will not be a bt retrofit offered. Without any kind of factory phone prep in the car I'm not so sure it will be possible through a dealer.

The mObridge kits for the MY09s are becoming available. Part number M1000-M-BT, $699 plus shipping. They are only BT, not IPOD. I just ordered one from Tom at eas and is being shipped to me. I still need the latest patches from mObridge in order to work with MY09 vehicles. I will load them from the SD card after Tom emails them to me.

I think all we need to do is code the car for ULF, no CDC coding is needed. I do have an independent BMW shop close by with an Autologic system that I plan to use.

I will keep you all posted.

I think that no coding is required for Telephone, as used TCU can be plugged in in a vehicle without that option and without coding the Bluetooth feature works.

It could be different for this mObridge device, though. Double check with Tom...

That would be really nice. Yeah, I've seen the threads about coding and I'm still uncertain about it as well. I think a used TCU will work fine but a new one may require some type of activation via coding. Will soon find out.

Thanks,
Jim

Yep, going in for coding hopefully tomorrow. Installation was straight forward and Tom at eas is answering my emails on Sunday. Great support from eas, I think this will be a winner.

Where'd they put the module? Did you have to tear apart the whole dashboard?

It literally took 10 mins to remove the head unit. I have an iDrive and I followed this:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ht=amp+upgrade

The installation of the fiber optic is the same as the ipod kit instructions. For the power, I tapped on the Red/Green wire for constant+ and the Brown wire for ground. These wires provide power to the head unit (CiC if you have iDrive and ASK if you don't). See the pictures at the above link for the wires plugged into the X13812 block. There is no need to remove those wires from the X13812 block as instructed for the the ipod kit install; just tap the power (Red/Green) and ground (Brown) using wire taps to power the mObridge (Red for power, Black for Ground). There is also a blue cable at the mObridge end but it is not used. The MOST bus will power on and off the mObridge so there is no need to plug it to a switched power source.

Cool. I'm not really enthused at the thought of using wire taps. Can I use the X13812 block as a power source without tapping into actual wires?

BTW how'd the coding go?

Coding was not succesful because AutoLogic did not have the programming for my Performance Kit. The shop had to upload the logs from my car and we should have programming some time this week.

Performance Kit? Does this have anything to do with telephone coding?

BTW, I'm not sure I have an Autologic-equipped dealer in my area. Can my dealer do the coding anyway?

Yeah, Autologic will not code the car with any errors present. You should ask your dealer if they are willing to do it, some are cool about it and some are not.

OK then, keep us posted - I'm anxious to find out if mobridge is going to work without 640!
