how to get updates

My dealer tells me they dont know anything about "CIP 23" for my 06 325i sedan... can anyone who has had this done give me the details from their invoice so I can take it to BMW...

i've got another question, how do you tell which version you have?

you can only get software updates if the particular software update is needed for any issues/problems you are having with your car. You can't just get an update willy nilly, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

From what I've read here, no way to tell what exact version you have except with the dealer's h/w and s/w tools.

The latest version has a slightly different menu structure. If your phone doesn't have the keypad immediately accessible during a call (i.e., you have to click iDrive to get the menu to pull up the keypad) then you don't have the latest version. Mine is not the latest, but I have had no problems. I don't want to update unless I have a problem or unless something really cool gets incorporated into the new OS, like a nav "search by name" feature.
