E92 Lower Mesh Design Change?

I was going to change my front lower mesh on my 335 to the 328 ones and modify the passenger side for the oil cooler. However, when I received the part, it looks like this:

These are not easily modified.

The driver's side one I have on my car looks like this:

If the black ones looked like this, then I could just cut off the plastic part behind the mesh. But with the design I received, the mesh is solid.
Did BMW change the design? If so, does anyone know where I can get the "older" version that can be easily modified? Thanks.

Why couldn't you have just gotten the part for the 335i with active cruise and the oil cooler?

Active cruise grills are all black, and the mesh would be empty for the oil cooler.

Haha no problem man!

I would bet that, worst comes to worst, you could get your old mesh out and use plastidip to paint it. It'll turn out fine, but getting new parts (like you're doing) is the best way to do it!

Would you happen to have the part number? I can't seem to find that particular one at getbmwparts.com. Thanks.

That's the problem, the mesh is now solid as opposed to just having a solid piece behind it.

I think I found the part number. According to:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...05&hg=51&fg=15
the lower right mesh part number is 51117175312.
I'm going to check with a local BMW dealer or Tischer to confirm this.
Are you sure the 335's with Active Cruise have black lower mesh?

same issue here, you have to paint your 335i grills, the 328s have the solid piece blocking it
