Hmmm... watching the action closely! Great to see so much awesome stuff coming out for this car.
First 1/4 of 2010 is when they're saying they anticipate release of their 335i flash AND switcher! LINK TO THEIR POST: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=253564 |

just a thought..
since i have no dog in this fight, my comments are based solely on obvseration
It seems that GIAC is pretty steadfast in the developing process.. which makes some a little leery .. but the product seems to be winner -- and I have yet to see them set release dates for their software, which in the "right now" world is a downer, BUT everyone that has installed it (save a few) has had nothing but praise for the tune. so i doubt another tuners release of a product will edge them on... i guess they dont want their reps tarnished by the release of a partially functional switcher, even though things like that can and do happen. the N54 community is enhanced by GIAC's pursuit of excellence. and no.. i wasnt paid to say any of this |

This is a good point.
What would you rather have? 400 whp on 91 octane or 330 whp on 91 with a free chocolate bar?

IMHO - I think GIAC will sell many more stage 1 tunes than stage 2 tunes given the extra hardware need to support stage 2. Additionally, I'm guessing that most folks (I know, not you two guys) will be perfectly satisfied with the stage 1 tune (I'm in this camp - I'm so psyched with the stage 1 tune that at this point I really don't think that I even want any more power it's so good) and GIAC would sell many more of them if the flash loader was available. I'm sure GIAC has their reasons for putting the stage 2 tune at a higher priority than the flash loader, but with the limited knowledge I have, it seems to me that it would have made more business sense to get the flash loader done first and then work on stage 2 so that they'd be selling more tunes & loaders while they're working on stage 2. |

flashloader vs Stage2
im not sure if this next comment is valid ..
but it seems that S1 represented GIAC entrance into the N54 camp, giving a sneak peek at their capabilities for software engineering. S2 seemed to be required by the onslaught of power hungry x35 owners that want to move the bar up on their performance to a level comparable to the existing front-runners. that said .. it becomes inperative for the end-user to have the switching option available -- you may be able to dismiss 50+hp on a test drive .. with closer to 100hp on tap... i dont think that will go well with valeting or servicing your car |

In terms of running higher hp numbers safely - being first should not be the goal.
S1 will satisfy most N54s on the forum, while S2 will need to meet a certain criteria (DPs, intercooler, etc) in order to get the most power from the tune. GIAC's pirority #1 is making power. The switching devices will come later.

Well, based on this thread, looks like GIAC will be the first one out. Granted, Evolve's was supposed to be an at home flashing solution, compared to GIAC's map switcher (you still need to have the ECU flashed by GIAC directly or at one of their authorized dealers, if there's one close to you).
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=411771 Would be nice to have an update from Evolve on theirs. |

Please! GIAC has a massive market share outside of BMW.
