What runflats for the 335i are still being produced?
I need some new tires, but I was told by my local tire dealer that neither the Bridgestone RE050A nor the Michelin Pilot PS2 ZP 225/40R18 front and 255/35R18 rear runflats are being produced anymore. The only current product runflat he could find was the Bridgestone EL400 RFT (which is not a high performance tire). Can anyone confirm or refute the above information please? Thanks.

Yes, but his claim wasn't availability of the tires, it was that these models are no longer being manufactured. So if one of the tires was later damaged, it might be difficult to find a replacement for it without having to buy a new set of tires.
I checked the Michelin website, and the Pilot PS2 ZP's are still showing up there. I also left a note on the Michelin website and will advise everyone on the response that I receive. Thanks. |

I got clarification about it from Michelin today, and here's what they indicated. Some sizes of the Pilot Sport PS2 ZP's (i.e. their PAX runflats) are currently on backorder, but the company is planning another production run in January. They have NOT been discontinued.

Michelin PS2 ZPs are great.
Edit: added information: I used to have Bridgestones. Since my car already had over 28,000 miles when purchased, the tires were due for a change. The stock Bridgestone Potenza RE050A run-flat tires were already at the wear bars. At 30,000 miles, I purchased and got the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ZP run-flat tires mounted at the neighborhood Tires Plus store. The Michelins are a great improvement over the jittery Bridgestones. The ride is noticeably smoother, although turn-in response has diminished slightly. In fact, you'd be hard-pressed to tell that these were run-flat tires from the ride quality - something I can't say about the harsh Bridgestones. Last edited by NiVeDh; 12-19-2009 at 12:05 AM.. |
