There's a good reason for that. Even NCRC openly admit that.

In reality, whether or not you need instructing isn't really up to you. I've been instructing for YEARS, and to be honest, my learning curve still increases dramatically when there's a qualified professional coach sitting in my passenger seat. Heck, at the last club race I attended, a friend of mine who was racing had hired a professional coach for the event, and went from the middle of his pack to winning his class and competing with leaders in a class above his. So, as you can see, even experienced club racers BENEFIT from having some amount of coaching.

There are values to be had for lapping days sans instructor. We all need solo time to figure out stuff for ourselves sometimes. And to get to the top of this game, you absolutely need the skills to drive by yourself. But until you get to that point, there's a lot of value to be had with a program like BMW CCA where an instructor is available with you in car at all times.

So, to be honest and blunt, yeah BMW CCA schools cost a lot more money, and in this economy it may be hard to justify. But you DO get your money's worth. It's like the age old argument...Why pay more for a BMW when there are a slew of Japanese makes and models that performs just as well on paper for MUCH LESS? You get what you paid for.

One last note. As you get progressively faster and better at this high performance driving stuff, it actually gets EXPONENTIALLY more expensive to get good coaching to go even faster. I believe my club racing friend paid $1,200 per day for his coach, who's a mutual friend of ours and that's his DISCOUNTED PRICE.

Not making any sort of value judgement, just saying that it's one of the more pricey options. Ran this same event with bmwcca last year.

This is my first time at that track, so the instruction IS the big attraction for me. Besides, I like to run with other BMWs.

I'm thinking of doing both BMWCCA on 1/18 and NCRC on 2/1.

I've been to Laguna 4x now (1st time w/ BMWCCA), so I figured I'm due for another day of instruction to make sure I'm not picking up bad habits, and to learn new things. Then go back and practice on 2/1.

So basically, I use the BMWCCA HPDEs for instruction and the other clubs for additional practice on my own With that mind set, the cost of the HPDEs are more than justified for me.

I do the same thing. I can't practice so well with an instructor in the car. This is probably because it takes me a while to process what they are teaching me and how to fit it into my style/thinking.

I've never not learned anything valuable at a BMWCCA school.

I'll see you at the 2/1 event.

I will be there on 2-1. However, Jeff Tyler(our record setting driver) will be driving my car this time. I think I am pretty fast...but this kid is 7 seconds quicker at ACR and 6-7 seconds quicker at BWR than I am. This kid will dip below 1:40 I am sure.

Oh gosh.... ever hear the phrase "Speak softly and carry a big stick"??
Didn't the car have more mods on it for ACR and BW when I drove it vs you? Plus our setup tweaking...?

I'm really looking forward to Laguna. Hope the weather cooperates with us.

Yeah, it didn't have all the mods when I drove it.

The 400hp GIAC flash wasn't there. Neither was the Stoptech Trophy Brakes and the slight change is spring rates.

Hey guys, looking forward to seeing you again at Laguna on Mon 1/18 and again on 2/1 (I'm going to both).

J Tyler, I don't think I had the pleasure of meeting you yet, so looking forward to it...plus I need some tips on how to mount the GoPro HD camera (I just got it), lol

Officially I cant make this...only weekend events for me when I get my Audi trackworthy...I have a new job and cannot take weekdays off. Selling my track wheels and tires...to buy some SSR competition wheels and tires for the Audi. You will see me at BMW events..just in an Audi though.

Same here, you'll have to give me a ride in your car!

I mounted it to the moonroof with the suction cup.
