Garmin Nuvi 660

Anyone have one of these? It's pretty new, but highly rated so far. I'm thinking of getting one and would be curious of any feedback.

I'm digging this Nuvi 660. I've taken in on several drives of various distances and used it to find places. It is, as Marisa Tomei would say... "dead on bawlls accurate". If I deviate from my route it does a great job of recalulating and getting me back on track. I know that you folks that have NAV are used to most of this, but this is my first unit. If you don't have BMW NAV, I highly recommend this one.

It also has a nice trip computer screen that shows your actual speed (and shows how far off our odometers really are) and other nice stats. I'm looking forward to taking it on vacation with me next month and using it in a rental car - something you CAN'T do with your BMW NAV system!

what about a navman or a tomtom? i know the navman icn530 also have a high rating but don't know compare to the one you want. it's onsale to. check it out at http://www.navman-store.com
but the tom tom still whacked but for the appearance i will still go with the navman. saw in a mag and showed that sony has a really cool one and it got one of the top ratings, quite small though.

I recently had to take a business trip to the DC metro area (Bethesda). I'm not very familiar with that area, and the beltway always stresses me out because I don't drive it that often. The Garmin got me there flawlessly! I always new my next turn, which lane I should be in, etc. It even alerted me to traffic conditions (not that heavy traffic on the outer loop was a bulletin or anything). The wide screen and voice prompts made the trip simple and stress free.

For anyone without OEM NAV, I highly recommend this beauty! I'll be taking it on vacation soon, and should make getting around in my rental very easy too!

I picked up a Nuvi 660 and really like it. I've taken a couple of trips already and it worked really well. Easy to navigate through the choices. The only complaint I may have and not sure if it's just this product or all navi systems is on one of my trip it got me to my location, however, it was into the back entrance which had been closed off for years. Other than that, I would encourage anyone to get this product.

No, I wouldn't do that. Can't vouch for my horrible memory though! I will do a couple of shots of it in the car and post them.

My dad has the Nuvi 350 unit. Out of the 3 navigation systems I've used, this one ranks at the top. Next would be the Toyota/Lexus nav setup followed by my 2002 BMW Nav system.

The Nuvi is really easy to use and convenient. You can mount it in your car or put it in your pocket. Works 3-7 hours on a single charge (lithium-ion battery built in) and has modes for automobile and on foot. I can imagine that the 4.5" widescreen on the 660 makes it that much sweeter (3.5" square on the 350).

Just used it while on vacation in a rental car and it was awesome! Got me everywhere flawlessly - including back to the airport car rental place, which can sometimes be tricky. Being able to toss it in my laptop bag and take it with was a nice treat!

I have a Nuvi 660 -- and think it is incredible. I could care less about the MP3 and other non-navigation features so I can't comment on those, but the nav. functionality is incredible. The 3d map display is very clean, and the 660 has a very nice anti-aliased high-resolution display, that looks MUCH clearer than the other navigation units I've used -- even the other nuvis. The real-time traffic does require it be plugged in (cig. lighter cord) -- but otherwise, it works great w/o mounting. I built a small little mount that slips in my cup holder -- since I do not use the nav constantly.

Routes are calculated very quickly (just a few seconds), and re-routes (when you miss a turn / take a detour) are practically instant. The text-to-speech voice is also clear and pleasing -- although the other non-default voices don't sound anywhere near as clear as the standard voice.

Overall, the best nav. available, in car or otherwise. True story, thanksgiving weekend my wife and I actually suction-cup mounted our nuvi 660 to the navigation display screen in the Porsche -- since the Nuvi is so much better at navigation than the factory system. I felt a little "red-neck" with the whole "working tv sitting on top of the broken tv" analogy with our nuvi navigation sitting on top of the porsche navigation... but anyways, you get the point.

I'm a huge fan of anything Garmin make. I have a 330 (the Garmin - not the car, oh I have one of those too

) and a 2720 which is awesome.

The newer Nuvis use a slightly different technology to the older ones like mine and are very very cool.

Yes. It has an FM transmitter.

Yes, very well. I use the AUX port -- since in Phoenix the FM is full. There is a port on the side to transmit audio via AUX... however, most often I just use the built in speakers. On the 660 they are quite loud, and very clear.

I've been toying with getting one of these. Trying to figure out in my head how to cleanly have both a gps device and my mp3 player both use the aux input without having wires everywhere.

Oh hey Led, might want to wait a little, the Nuvi 670/680 should be coming out soon, You can get one of those or the 660 for a lot less I'm sure.

My fiance just ordered a Nuvi 660. I want to test it out in my car and see how it performs. I heard it is light. I noticed a lot of people install the navigation systems up near the rear view mirror close to the roof so it is hard to notice when you are looking at the car from the outside. I am thinking of a way to 'permanantly' install a Nuvi on the top of the windshield and use the V1 hard wiring to power the unit. It would be nice DIY...

Note that the traffic receiver for the 660 is in the cigarette lighter plug. This makes permanent wiring (especially near the rear view mirror) difficult, if not impossible, if you want to use that feature.

IMO it's much better on the dash where it's in your normal line of sight.
