BMW Pro Sat Nav 2010-1
Hi all
Might have missed this elsewhere, but: a) is it out yet? b) is it much different graphically? c) what other than an updated POI list does it offer? thanks B |

The HD version for 2009 has just been released, so I think you might to wait a bit longer.
The car is booked in at the dealer for the upgrade early Jan 2010 for the 2009 verison, only a year late. The DVD version should be out a bit sooner. |

This was a major gripe of mine when I collected the car. 2009-1 was out and 2009-2 was released within weeks. My car with the HDD based nav was sold with 2008-1 installed ![]() My dealer said they will see if they can sort it FOC but not likely, and I may have to take it up with BMW customer services to see if they can arrange the upgrade FOC. Seeing as the car was sold with Nav software 12 months out of date, I don't see why I should be expected to pay for an 'upgrade' that is only putting the car back to how it should have come out of the factory! |

![]() Since October I believe the upgrade is now available, normally you would be changed for this however due to some warranty work needing on the car. I hoping that they are going to do the install this as a kind gesture, plus I am hoping that the Voice commend upgrade is also inclusive in the upgrade. Been talking to the service guys about this, but as yet they have not said either way, so I am hoping. |

I am not sure what the voice command update is. You can find the sat nav version in one of the menu's, cannot remember which one off the top of my head but not too difficult to find. My car has 2008-1 installed which was a year out of date when I collected the car. I am going to push to get the upgrade FOC.

The info about the voice command feature is at http://www.worldcarfans.com/10906081...control-system. As to my current HD Sat Nav version this is Roadmap Europe Premium 2008-2.

The Pre 2010 version of the voice command is crap, I tried it a few times but is is just to slow to use, however the current version post 2010 does sound better and much more user friendly to use.

Just checked my car. The nav version is 2009-02.
It also accepts nav destinations in a single voice command. You say the address as you would normally: e.g. 10 Downing Street, London It then says 'checking list', goes quiet for a minute then reads the address back to you. |

NFS, sounds you have the updated version, can you say telephone and then the persons name in the same sentence? I have to say one word at a time and wait each time for the voice command to understand my request.
NFS I presume that the 355i is a 2010 model? |

I'll have to give the telephone thing a go. One of the few disapointments with the LCI system was finding that the voice recognition will not work for phone numbers stored on my phone. On my 330i I could use the command "call David Smith" and it would dial the number stored for David Smith in my phones contacts. With the new one it seems that I need to create a new phone book specifically on the idrive system. This seems to be a huge step backward as it appears to be very like the system which was included in my 2004 e60. On that car you had to dial in 2 stages with "Dial Name" then "David Smith". |

Could that be because the idrive displays all names with the surname first
? Have you tried asking it to call Smith David. I know it sounds stupid but I am sure I have read on another thread that this is the case! |

The manual talks about voice dialling save contacts though ![]() Does seem bizarre that BMW would have ditched such a useful feature though. |

Because it was designed by Germans, At least the Germans I know tend to be very formal and insist in naming people by their surname. Even in there Software applications individuals are identified as Surname then first name.

Need to try to figure out the shortcuts. On the 330i I could say the following from any screen: "call David Smith home" On the new car I had to say: "Phone Book" Then ... "Smith David" It didn't seem to accept 'home' or 'mobile' as a way of selecting numbers for that contact, so I ended up making the call by clicking on the number manually. |

![]() You do have to 'say' them in the displayed order. And for multi-number contacts it will just say 'there is more than one number for this contact' and you have to select the number you want with the i-drive. But if you save a name with a first name only, it still lists alphabetically in the overall list. So just 'simon' will still list after Rogers but before Smith.. |

BMW used to display first name and then surname and it is far easier asking the car to ring David Smith instead of Smith David. There are also some business contacts that I only call once in a blue moon, and whilst I always remember their first name I sometimes forget their surname. I don't want them in my phone as first name only, because it syncs up with my computer address book and I like to have all the contact details correctly programmed. With a system as complex and clever as the idrive system, it seems a huge oversight to not be able to choose. My phone allows me to choose, my car doesn't ![]() |
