So I have to give credit to Dinan because they gave me the idea.
I gave them a call to see if I could do any testing with their intake but they weren't interested and there was no way that I was going to fork over a grand to get that intake.

Thankfully I was able to get another OEM air box from one of the members to do my test intake and this is the end reult.
I wouldn't recommend anyone to do this if they are turning in their lease anytime soon.
It wasn't that hard but it was time consuming with measuring and looking for the right accessories. But, some ABS piping, a K&N filter, and shop vac hose made it come all together.

The filter in the bumper area is higher than the opening so it should skip all of the rain and debris from the road.

Wow thats not bad at all. It should be tested on a flow bench to see if there are any real gains. Dyno would help too.

I loved your idea with meth. But I don't really care for this much. I mean, if you are trying to avoid spending money, then sure. But I don't see how its going to be much better than stock considering you will probably flow more air from the vented ducts on the front through the ram air effect with scoops than you would with that flex hose. This is just like the STETT but with plastic homebrew and two air inlets.

The main reason is because the stock air box has been proven to be restrictive and I personally don't like the whole idea of the DCI. I don't like the looks, the sound, and it kills me to think about all of the heat that the engine is sucking in.
I know I have meth now, but it doesn't mean that the air temps can't be colder.
It has nothing to do with money because I had to fork over the dough to get the test air box.

Yep, I am not a fan of DCI either. I think its totally pointless and in fact, I think the dci, injen afe etc all are cheap ass excuses for mods. I will say this, I think your version will more than out perform any of the above mentioned, but really. Why not just get the STETT or perhaps the UR CAI? They have a nice finish, you can retain your airbox and they are very cheap. Plus, it doesn't have to look like your engine bay is a laundry room

I have a question... Has anyone ever considered putting filters like 6 inches from each compressor inlet somewhere? I know space is limited but is there any place to put such a thing? I think that the plastic intake pipes that pass next to the engine/radiator fan bring a lot of heat into the system that is unnecessary.

I would think it will favor one "side" or the other (ie; more air flow thru either the stock air-path or the homebrew hose).

I think what he is trying to do is work off what Dinan intake is doing exactly except for obvious asthetics compared to the Dinan intake, I think they will both work out to do the same thing...I am sure if he wanted he can customize the piping to make it look better, but he is just testing it out..

DCI for 100bux has proven results cheap and effective. my personal experience was last year we had a dyno day i had jb3/DCI auto another member had jb3/MT both xi. what i remember i had close to 10whp more. this was the old JB3 before map switching.. ill try to dig up those dynos.

Were the fans blowing directly on the DCIs though? I have a hard time comparing results from a car with DCIs with fans blowing right onto the filters whereas the stock box obviously won't do as well.
