330d Bluefin Remap (mini review)
Well I got a Bluefin (Superchips) remap for my E90 330d recently, and today was really the first time I got to try it out in the lower gears (still damp roads, but a lot less slippy than earlier in the week)
Results of the remap are impressive, as would be expected with power up from the standard 231bhp to ~275bhp, and an extra 65nm of torque (on top of the standard 500nm which is already a fair bit more than an M5, R8 etc!) The extra power is pretty much spread over the rev range, not just a big spike to get a headline figure, so this makes the driving characteristics similar to before - ie very liner for a turbo diesel, and power/torque all the way up the rev-range - not just one short lump like my old 2.0 TDi Audi. It's more responsive than it was before, and the slightly dull throttle response was one of my pre-remap gripes. Acceleration is now up there with the fastest cars I have ever owned. Before getting the car remapped I was (much to my surprise, and his) able to keep up with a mate in his TVR 4.5 Chimaera on a-roads - with only the long straights seeing the TVR creep ahead at 100+ speeds. Now I reckon I would have the edge over the TVR. MPG does seem to have taken a knock which I didn't really expect with remaps generally improving things a touch, but it could just be down to the cold weather. One other thing is the gear change was previously a bit difficult to do smoothly a low-speeds in traffic, but now it's totally smooth Don't know if this is something to do with the improved responsiveness, but either way it's an unexpected bonus Overall pretty happy, with only the MPG question mark remaining! Clearly life of rear tyres, clutch, turbo and possibly gearbox will shortened however!
