LCI Halogen Halo Upgrade with ICE White LED from SSDD Motorsport

The LED bulbs are in. Plugged into car. No Error message. Halos are Super White and Bright. Well Pleased . Going to fit them in car tommorrow if I get chance. Will post more pictures then.
This is a sort of how to if anyone is interested. I have done it differently to the poster from USA because, I found out if you get the LED bulb closer to the ends of the Halo Rings, the result is a much brighter HALO.
Also you need to make sure you aim the LED correctly at the end of the Halo.
1. Remove Standard Halo Bulb. Easy. Two screws. Now you will see this. Its the ends of the Halos that need to be hit with light.....

2.Wrap Black tape around the sides of Halo ends, but of course leave the end clear. THIS STOPS ANY LIGHT ESCAPING and improves the brightness...

3. Pop to hardware shop and get four of these speed clips...

4. Open up and drill hole as shown

5. Make up like this....

6.LED Bulbs from SSDD....

7. Fit Brackets I made like this

8. Screw into Headlight using original Halo Bulb screws into Original holes...this picture shows the LED bulb lit, notice how the tape stops light escaping. Notice how close I have the LED bulb up to the ends of the Halos, only a small amount of light escaping, the rest of the light you can see is coming from the halos inside the lamp unit !

9. I decided to solder two new wires onto the original Halo bulb connector, in case I want to refit the old halo bulb for some reason, I still have the connector on, all you need is to crimp on two female spade terminals...

10. Result. Super White Halos.

11.Standard yellow Halo Bulb. You can see the difference in colour, even more noticeable in person, camera not too good.

Same RD 6w leds in my car. Straight plug and play on pre LCI headlamps. Good job you did this off the car before fitting the headlamps to the car. There is no room with your head under the front wings. Hope you soldered the red and black wires together and not just twisted and taped!!

Looks a good job with the brightness

There In !!!!!!

Daylight better than expected.....

Nightime very bright, camera does not do justice here

Its been a challenge getting hold of the lamps and then the LED bulb, but in the end I am so happy to get the all important halos. Been out in car today, other BMW drivers were looking at car, its made all the difference.
Fit time was 2 hours.
Thanks to the forum for the advice and ideas.
Thanks to SSDD for a good deal of discount from bulbs.

They are an improvement and still bright in the daylight!

How did you find swapping the headlight and getting them aligned again? I found the bolt underneath the most annoying!

Yes, I put the Philips super bright thingy ones in dip, and also 100w in the main beam.......big difference on both

Yes I know which one you mean! Also getting behind the arch liner to the top bolts was a PITA

It seems a stupid design IMO! Be careful with those 100W bulbs they will melt your headlights.

They are fine, its a common upgrade, the lights will take it, remember main beam is not on for very long anyway....been doing this for many a year to my cars.

Fair point they are in main beam I replaced some focus headlights for a friend that 100W bulbs had melted, wouldn't want those lovely headlights to get damaged.

Tunna am I right in thinking your pics are all just with sidelights turned on?

If so any chance you could post a pic of what they look like with the main lights on too?

p.s. they look sweet! Remap was going to be my next mod, but I think this has just changed my mind - need them in before the nights start getting lighter so I can get some use out of them on the way home from work!

Are the brackets you made only required if you want to fit the new bulbs right against the end of the halo for a brighter light? (as per pic 8).

Are these bulbs a direct swap for the LCI Halo OEM bulbs (ie will they fit without a bracket being made?) and how difficult will they be to fit with the headlamps already on the car?

P.S ~ The lights look v nice!!!

It would be a real challenge to do this with the headlamps in, I wouldn't try it. Even if you choose not to make your own brackets like I did, and try to secure the bulb into the old halo bulb holder it will be a PITA trying to do it in situ, because they are not a direct swap, I don't think there is a direct swap available at the moment, there is something called Lux 5, but it could be tricky to fit with the lamps in and they cost a fortune. If you want to do what I did, you could get the bulbs ordered and then when they arrive, do the job over a weekend take the lamps out etc, presuming you are confident to use spanners. Or find a mate who is !
