Is ANYONE running catless downpipes with a warranty?
If so... How? Are you removing them every time you go in for service? I'll probably run the idea by my service advisor, who I'm very generous with whenever I have work done, and see what he says. He keeps pushing me to go the Dinan route so I doubt he's going to have anything good to say.
The reason I ask is because I'd really like to get 3" catless downpipes with high flow secondaries and 3" pipes the rest of the way through with high flow mufflers (people do generally keep mufflers on, right?) - but I've kinda lost hope figuring this would void the warranty not only on my exhaust but on the turbos and possibly the engine. I have a JB+ at 100% and love it - but a JB3 and DCT is in the mail and should be here tomorrow.. I'm sure I'm going to want to open up the exhaust next..... What's everybody else in this situation doing?

Major service for repairs will be a problem like turbos, drivetrain etc, but for regular maintenance oil change, sparks brakes, it would not IMO... |

I guess I should just be satisfied with the JB3 running on Map 5 and a dual cone intake.. The car is pretty fast now with the JB+ running at 100% so I can only assume the new setup will be as big a difference as it was going from stock to now..

You can always do the PnP version which is easy to take in and out but Jon runs the JB3 system on his 335 under warranty and has never had an issue. You can also run it on Map 0 when going in.

I have downpipes, catless exhaust, dci, and jb3. Dealer never says anything when taking it in for maintenance.

If it were a thing like you go in with a few mods installed and they WARN you that you're going to void your warranty by bringing it in like that - I'd be fine with it.. My issue is going in and coming out without a warranty anymore. I like warranties - especially 100,000 mile ones.. So I'll just do without the downpipes unless my service advisor gives me the feeling I'll be okay...

I went in for a failed HPFP and they replaced it without saying anything about my intake and intercooler.
I went back in with complaint about turbo whine and they said they would have to charge me a fee for troubleshooting the car, but would refund the fee if the fault was not related to my mods - or - put it back to stock and no fee. I brought it back with next week with the oem intercooler and they worked on it for free. Never heard a peep about losing my warranty. I think from their perspective they have to rule out your mods as a possible cause of an issue. |

Ehh, don't take advantage of them.
It will work to your benifit if you go in as stock as you can for major repairs like a HPFP or Turbos. If you are going in for maintenance, you can't really say "oh I bring my car into my dealer with mods on" because if they are doing an oil change, they won't even bother looking at anything else. It's jobs like a HPFP that matter when you go in with mods. My dealership is very generous. They ask if you have any mods before going in for major services and tell you if you should take them out or not. That's how every BMW dealer should be since we are all enthusiasts and it's very boring for us to keep a car bone stock.

If the N54 didn't have all the wastegate/fuelpump issues, it would be an easy decision. Since you're talking about a 3 hour (semi difficult) install, it can be a PITA. And 95-99% of the time, you're probably not redlining the car much to take full advantage of them.

I would think that the more power you have, the less you would be looking at the higher RPMs since the car has the same power/torque but at lower RPM's if you tune it or throw on downpipes. With my 335, a pull from 2k-4.5k was more than enough for me unless I was balls out racing...which was rare. However, when it was stock, I would visit the 4k-6k RPM range more often. Either way, I resisted from putting DP's on because it would have been too much of a pain to put on and take off if I ever had to.
