Dunlop Wintersport D3 verses M3
I'm getting ready to order my winter wheels and tires. It looks like Dunlop does not have the new D3's in 17" runflats at this time but the older M3's. Since I understand the D3's replaces the M3's, I feel like I'm buying last year's technology.
Does anyone know if the M3's are being discontinued, if the the D3's will be coming out in more sizes soon, or any other information that might be helpful. Thanks. |

Can't help on D3's ......... but really enjoyed running on M3's last winter ...... in some ways sportier than the 18 162's with RE50's I have been running this summer ....... about time to swap here in Cleveland ........ I doubt technology has really changed that much ..........

Don't sweat it.
The new Winter Sport 3D should actually be very similar to the M3, likely the same compound and very similar tread pattern. The M2 was replaced by the M3 which is now superseded by the 3D. Each generation made small improvements in dry and wet handling while maintaining the snow grip of the old M2. You won't see any runflat 3D's ths year. |

Gary from TireRack has an interesting post here
where he states "The next evolution of the Dunlop Winter Sport M3 is the Winter Sport 3D. The Winter Sport 3D is simply the next generation of the Winter Sport M3, much like the M3 replaced the old Winter Sport M2. No large differences, just an evolution of the tire. Dunlop says that cornering ability in dry should be improved slightly due to a change in the design of the sipes, but we're talking about a very small difference here." So probably not a big difference, but I ordered the 3D for this winter. A little improvement can prove vital in winter conditions IMO. |
