Bridgestone 3rd Generation runflats
Does anyone know if these are available?
If they are - does anyone have any experience, feedback or views on performance/comfort and noise? I have 17" Bridgestone OEMs at present that will need replacement (all four) soon Many thanks

I'd like to know this too - can't find them anywhere yet, even though they were announced months ago. What gives?

They were supposed to be out OE in 2010, and as replacements some time later, according to a linked review i saw on here somewhere.
Don't hold your breath mind. If you want to keep RFTs go fo the Michelin PS2, bearable on 17" and a whole heap better than the Bridges. |

I need to replace the OEM RE050s on my 535d soon and have been asking around after these 3rd generation RFTs. No-one knows anything about them.
As my car is pre 03/2006 build date (when they changed the struts to optimise the RFT ride) I'm going to put non-RFTs on it, probably Michelin Primacy HP because the PS2/PS3s aren't available in a 50 profile. From what I've heard, the Michelin PS2 and Primacy HP ZP (Zero Puncture) tyres are getting very positive reviews ride-quality wise and I'd consider these if I was going to stick with RFTs, but according to event-tyres they are unavailable at the moment too. |

I'd love Michelin PS2 runflats, unfortunately I have 19" 225M wheels so I have no other choice but Bridgestone unless I go non-runflat (which I will not do).

Yes. In fact I started a thread about it here:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=234679 They ended up being changed at 19000 miles because the inside edge was bald.

I had Bridgestones on my 330i and didn't have a massive problem.
I swapped to Vredestein non-runflats as a bit of an experiment and found that the ride quality was massively improved. Unfortunately, the handling was also a little softer, which I'm not convinced was a price worth paying. My 335i came with Michelin PS2 runflats and they are a massive improvement on the Bridgestones. Ride quality is almost as good as with the Vredesteins, without the compromises in handling or need for compressors / tyre weld etc. |

Well - today I had a pair of Michelin runflats (17") fitted on the front. Rears due in about 3000 miles.
First impressions compared to Bridgestones are much less harsh, better ride, quieter and less tramlining - though this wasn't a major issue, but it was with hindsight present. So far - very pleased. Bridgestones had done 21500 miles on the front and were still legal, though one was marginal on the outer edge. I reckon the rears will do about 24000 and then they will be replaced by Michelins

Just fitted a set of Conti SportContact 3 non RFTs (surprised no one has mentioned them) to my 335d - it has Bridgestone Runcr4ps - the difference is enormous.
I find the PS2s have slightly better grip in the dry but the Contis kick ar5e when it's wet - which it is very often. Both wear well and are a similar price. |

The PS2s definitely have the edge in the summer and when driving hard, but it's rare anyone would approach the limits of the tyre's performance. Factor in also that Contis are cheaper than PS2s (by about £25 per tyre on average) and they make huge sense. Incidentally, Continental have launched the ContiSport Contact 5P - not available yet, but by the middle to third quarter of this year. Supposed to be a step forward from the already great Sport Contact 3s. It's going to be a close call between the new Continentals and the new Michelin Pilot Sport 3.

When ever we have this conversation, nobody ever mentions the Dunlop ROF.
These came on my car from the factory on my 17" rims and they feel no different to any other tyre. Now I have driven loaners with other run flats and can see why everybody hates them but the Dunlops are in a different league. They wear well too. Why is this? |

Tony, dont you rate the Eagle F1 Asymmentrics at all? every review ive read or watched puts them very favourably at the top; be it in americas or the uk. i know a year or two back you said they break off at high heat whilst you were on the track compared to PS2s but on the road were they that bad?
heres a vid i watched recently before i just ordered some last week:- http://www.autocar.co.uk/VideosWallp...AR=228551&CT=V |

But for the B-road country-lane tear-up they lost front-end grip too quickly and there wasn't enough incisiveness in turn-in. When they got really hot, it was worse! I can see why they rate highly on a FWD car though - the directional stability will help tighten up the front driven axle, giving more responsiveness.

I had F1s on an old mk3 GTi 16v and they were excellent - and cheap - but as Tony says. a powerful BMW is a different kettle of fish - they also wear pretty quickly. Not as bad as Toyos (which are very sticky) but still too soft.
Worst tyres I ever had on a "performance(ish)" car were Falkens - it was like they were made of plastic. Spun way too easily and suddenly let go without warning. Clearly they have improved but it put me off for life. What's happened to Pirelli? They (like Bridgestone) used to make excellent tyres - now they barely get a mention for anything other than dullard "economy" driving. |

I think the Pirelli P Zero are pretty good, and the Bridgestone non-rft RE050 are good as well.

the new pirelli "P Zero" is verry good on wet and dry, and it exist in RFT, I think it is a 3rd gen.
Don't miss up with old PZero! notice in the new tire there is a space between P and Z |
