Exclamation Starting Problems!!!! on cold days!!!

Hey guys,

So about a month ago i have had this problem that only happens on very cold days that are about 25 degrees or lower. I believe it has only happen about 5 or 6 times so far but its starting to bother me. this weekend i pretty much didn't move my car for about 2 days. When i go to push the on button the car makes like screechin noise and doesnt turn on. I have to push the button and clutch about 3 times before it eventualy turns on. I was wondering what can that be??
Its like if something was scraping. Anyone has any input on what this can be and if someone is having the same problem every now and then. Once it turns on its normal no vibration or anything runs just fine. Thank you guys

Does it make the screeching noise AND crank, or it doesn't crank at all?
The screeching noise alone sounds like your altenator is have problems (this is more noticible in the winter than summer since the car needs to draw out more juice in the winter to start).
If it doesn't crank at all, then it sounds like you need a new battery.

Are you talking about the long cranking sound ?
it can be either
a. fuel pump is going
b. exceed the percentage of ethanol in the pump gas ( i recommend pumping gas at shell)

i have had the long crank but never to the extend where it doesn't start. you should try bringing it to bmw to have them take a look at it

kim

good luck

i had it once that my car didnt start after long crank, also after a night of low 20s in temperatue and parked outside of my garage.

But havent had problems recently. I guess the car has adjusted to the cold temperature now?

(oh, and I finally cleaned up my garage and my car is now parked inside 24/7).

your battery is goin dead. best to take it to the dealer and get a new one put in. In these climates that go from one extreme to another, kills the life of the battery in 2-3 years.

ive been a lot of cold start issues lately, with sub freezing temps i'm not entirely surprised but i could also need yet another hpfp, might want to look into that as well..
