Hard Disk Satnav Traffic Info???
On my new car the satnav is only picking up traffic information when the radio station is set to Classic FM.
On the old system, it picked up the Classic FM traffic feed regardless of what station is selected. Any ideas what is wrong, or do they all do this (hope not!) |

On mine, the traffic info screen on Idrive doesn't seem to be dependant on any particular station, it's just there all the time.... or are you talking about something else?

Isn't it something to do with having "regional" selected PTY it think it might also be called.

If I do the same thing with Classic FM on it works fine and all the traffic warnings appear in the list and on the map. When I switch back to Radio 1, the warnings are still there, but they don't appear to update. I also seem to be missing traffic announcements from other stations, but have 'TP' switched on. |

Do your radio stations also revert back to some random station as well after you have been listening to another source such as cd or ipod?
I can have mine set to Radio 1 and then for some reason it reverts back to BBC Radio Stoke or similar. Not sure if this is because it has recevied a traffic report from Radio Stoke whilst I had been listening to a cd? PITA |

I used to wonder why my settings were all different sometimes, but things like the radio presets are stored on the key automatically. |

It always works when you are on a nav journey, but when simply viewing the map it varies, even on the same route everyday. The dealer said the usual thing - err book it in for an update. |

I'll test this tonight for you mate in the M3 as I normally only have CD or DAB on and I get traffic reports all the time.
The way it works in my 5 series (and previous BMWs) is that the car has two tuners, it uses one for Traffic updates and one for the station you want to listen too. This is called TMC. However on the Z4 it only has one tuner you lose it the minute you listen to anything other than Classic (they broadcast the TMC). If you car changes channel automatically then its because you have TP enabled and I recommend turning it off Neil.

The traffic map just seems to be a hot and cold diagram of traffic problems. I found it useless and turned it off. It gets the data from the same TMC source. i.e. Classic FM.
Neil.

Mines off also, I prefer the night screen option instead, still get traffic alerts (little triangles) in the nav maps though. which is nice.

The regular nav map (day or night view) should display all the TMC jam / delay symbols as did the previous nav system we both had in our 330i's. Your LCI does have 2 tuners. Make sure you have all the right filter options set in the traffic info options. Mine had none of the options ticked so it was 100% filtered - i.e. displayed nothing. |

Are you certain that your car still receives info if you are tuned to Radio 4? The only traffic controls I've found are: 1. You can select TP on the Radio Menu 2. You can switch traffic info 'on' or 'off' on the Navigation Options Menu 3. You can enable or disable the greyscale 'traffic info map' on the Map Settings Menu The info is received and displayed on the map with triangles etc when I'm tuned to Classic FM, but on Radio 1 or 4 .... I get nothing !!!! |

But when my car was new (Feb09) I couldn't receive any traffic info despite playing with all the settings, after 3 weeks I went to the dealers about some other issue and whilst the service guy was in the car with me I went to show him the lack of traffic info - and as if by magic there it was! He said it comes and goes for some reason, and he's right, its still a bit temperamental. But NFS, yours is new so they haven't fixed it yet obviously. The car must have 2 tuners, the NAV would be useless without the dedicated TMC tuner. Does it work if you have a CD on for example? |
