BMW short shifter worth it?
Hi guys,
sorry if posting in a wrong section. Does any of you installed the BMW Performance short shifter (#25110430357)? Was it worth it? I ordered my car with a standard shifter, and boy are those throws long...

I did the BMW ssk for my 335i as soon as it was available last year.
I am happy and recommend it. Shorter throws, and better 1-2 shift. And I did not use the shift knob that came with the kit, used the original shift knob. I was only willing to use BMW parts and BMW install. So I did not research the aftermarket. |

It works great, shifts feel much better and throws are obviously shorter.
My only minor gripe is that the shifter is now tilted more to the right than it was with the stock lever.

I paid about $200 for parts and about $140 for the install. Why not go to a place specializing in German cars instead of a stealer? You'll save a lot obviously...
Well worth doing a short shifter. It just feels 6mt was meant to be that way. I don't know why BMW doesn't do it as standard. Audi, Infiniti 6mts have a short shifter standard. Changing the MT fluid also makes shifts silky smooth. I just did it today (47k miles) and am very happy with the results. It cost me about $80. Get this, the stealership wanted about $230 to do it! BMW SSK vs B&M
Anyone else have experience with the B&M shifter, and able to compare to the BMW ?

It's worth it if all you want is to shorten the throws. If you want this + improved feel/feedback, go to the aftermarket. BTW, the aftermarket sticks are about the same cost as the OEM SSK.

I have part number 25110430360 which is :

I love it as it retained the stock lever length albeit with much shorter/crisper shifts. I also use the UUC RK7 knob. I really enjoy it but I haven't been able to compare it to one that is the lever only. |

I have the UUK Evo 3 SSK with DSSR (since yesterday ) and am very happy with it. Much shorter throws, changing gears is much smoother and it feels more precise and crispy than before. I also changed the fluid to Royal Purple Synchromax. Installation was not easy, but well worth it IMO.
Can't compare to the BMW SSK though as I've never driven that one. Alpina_B3_Lux

I have a UUC EVO3 SSK and I love it... definitely one of my top 3 favorite mods. Anything that improves the driver feedback and control (that's why you got MT right?) makes the car a joy to drive.
Definitely change the MT fluid to synchromax (I have not tried the UUC "recipe"). I recently did and surprisingly, it made a world of difference from factory fill and Redline MTL, which is what I used prior to that. Also, if you haven't already done it do the CDV mod as well. I've tried OEM SSK and it felt excellent as well, but I can't imagine it retaining that tight, crisp, shift action because of the plastic ball. I went for the UUC because it is a single machined piece and does not have any plastic parts. Plus, it's height adjustable. http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/html_pr...hifter_nav.htm Only drawback is that it's more expensive than the OEM SSK... I believe that is the price for the kit? I though the shift lever only went for about 65ish. |

The 335i SSK costs about $460 + install. But I managed to order only the mechanical parts (shift lever + shifting arm + circlip) for around $300 and at first I used my old boot and knob. But after a few months I purchased the Performance alcantara boot and knob too...and like them

I would recommend buying the UUC one over the BMW SSK. I only got the BMW one because my dad bought it for me and he believes the whole "only BMW parts should be on a BMW". I live 5 mins away from UUC and they are great guys that make great products. If you look at the UUC shifter next to the BMW Performance one it is in a whole different world quality wise. Also it is height adjustable aswell and isnt a major PITA to install because you dont have to remove the shift arm to replace it.
