Radiator additives?

Have any of you track guys tried using radiator additives like Royol Purples "Purple Ice" or Red Lines "Water Wetter" to keep your temps down? I'm thinking about trying one for my next track event at buttonwillow jan 30.

Iv used all those additives before and I didn't notice a difference, but maybe it was just me?

I've heard of guys who run distilled water/water wetter combo seeing a 10-15 degree decrease in water temp on a 335i. That difference sometimes may be enough to stave off limp mode.

If you use those additives in addition to standard cooling system fluids you won't notice much difference.

If you run straight water and one of those, then you should see some decreased temps. Not sure how much, but you will.

I've used them, but like said above, you can't just add it to your coolant and expect any difference. I always have some antifreeze in the tank for added protection against corrosion. But instead of a 50/50 mix of antifreeze/water, you can use like 25/75 instead, and then put in the additive to help.

We have been using 20/80 coolant and distilled water with Redline Water Wetter in our record setting 335i in the last 3 years with very good luck. No limp mode with regards to coolant temps. And as long as you don't need the freeze protection it should be something consider doing for track days.

We run Water Wetter mixed with coolant in the track car. I'd mix it with plain water but the coolant (ie: antifreeze) keeps things from freezing in the winter. Not sure if there's a difference, but every little bit helps.

Are you running an aftermarket oil cooler or the OEM oil cooler?
