No sound help!
Well the car has been sat frozen on the drive for over a week. With the temperature just getting above zero I thought I would start it up and let it thaw out a bit and charge the battery a little. Only problem there is no sound from the radio/cd system.
I have checked the mute button pushing the volume knob in/out still nothing. If I turn it up you can here the occasional crackle like sound is trying to come through. My guess is that a fuse somewhere has blown or maybe the amp if it has a seperate one. I have the Business sound system btw Any tips on what I should check before going to the stealers? I'm hoping it will be covered under the warranty if it's something major, but no doubt they will try and say it was caused by the weather. Thanks! |

A possible cause is that when the battery is depleted the car will not permit some electronic devices to function until the battery can be recharged. For example, I turned on my heated steering wheel one morning but it only stayed on for about ten seconds. In the afternoon it stayed on until I turned it off. The service center said that diagnostics said the battery was discharged.

Anyway, after having had the car running for 20 mins on the drive, I did the usual IT thing of turing the engine on/off, I heard the key inginition mechanism motor doing its stuff and voila... Sound! ![]() Btw I tried the foot on the brake, button start without the key in the dash and it started too! Thats a handy tip for winter mornings. |

Yeah, that fuse panel is a mess. One of the worse location designs I've seen. If there were a map instead of a chart of hieroglyphics it would make it easier to determine which fuse is which. Word of warning, if you take a fuse out, make certain you get it back into the right spot. Not all of the fuse slots are used. This was a £156 lesson I learned. Almost makes me want to take blown fuses, paint them black, and insert them in the empty slots.

Very good advice there SY, you've got the be very careful with fuseboards and unused slots. It's all very easy to take a fuse out in a rush and then not be 100% sure where it came from......

Get in and depress the footbrake. Keeping it depressed start the vehicle. Then stop the engine, remove the key and then press the start buttin again. Once the engine has started you can take your foot off the brake pedal, get out of the car and re-lock it again with the engine running, rear screen demisting, front blowers on full and seats warming

If it is a fuse, I'd check with BMW as there are a lot them and not all of them are obvious from the symbols on the card in the fuse box, which is for what ![]() |
