i want a new car. i think.
I'd post this in one of the specific forums, but I'm not decided between BMW or non BMW. Mods, move wherever.
Anyway, my 135 is a piece. It's been in for service on engine related issues more time than I can count, and I'd like to trade it in for something. KBB is approximately $28,000. Unfortunately, I can probably only expect $25,000 if I do trade it in. That's USD, not Malaysian ringgit. I don't want to buy anything over $40,000, and I'd like to keep it as close to $35,000 as possible. The criteria: -MANUAL. I row my own boat. Sometimes badly, but hey. Don't judge me. -Relatively fun -RWD or AWD -Not an S2000. -Not a 350/370z -No corvettes. My insurance would hate me and the C5 doesnt do much for me. -2 or 4 seats, preferably 4. -Relatively powerful (meaning a good power to weight ratio. Generally speaking, at least 250 ponies. I know relatively powerful to some means 600 bhp...let's not get crazy). -Not old. Meaning nothing pre-06, and nothing with more than say 25,000 miles. Around or less than 15k is preferable. -New or used is fine, preferably CPO-able if used. -I'm not tracking it, so I'm not concerned about that kinda performance. The things I've conjured up so far: -Used Z4M coupe. -New WRX STi. -Another 135 (coupe this time) -used RS4 (not high on my list) -Quit being a bitch and keep my car. Many of you know alot more than me about these (and all) cars. Help a brother out. Last edited by oneintheory; 01-12-2010 at 12:55 AM.. |

Daily driver? Aka will it see snow, rain, sleet etc and do you need any room to haul stuff? STI is always a nice option, but fit and finish is a step down from the 1, at least my 05 was, I know the new ones are better. New Evo is nice, but I always worry about reliability with Mitsu, but the new STI has had it's fair share of problems too. If you wait a little longer the new 5.0 mustang will be out and that could be fun. Camaro is always an option too. GTI is a stellar car too, but that's a bit under your hp limit and not sure when the new R32/34 is coming out. Used Caymans might be in that price range too. I just rambled for a while with whatever came off the top of my head.
Hope this helps is some way. |

I have access to other cars if I want to haul anything. I know fit and finish is a step down, but they're vastly improved. I never cared for Evos and can't see myself driving one. The new Camaros are hard to find at a decent price in SS trim, and I don't care too much for the looks. Don't care much for Mustang looks either. GTI is FWD, fairly fun, but not fast enough for me, coming out of the 135. I looked at Caymans, but the looks and Porsche maintenance kinda throw me off. Too hardcore for a DD. |

how many times has it been in for service? if youve racked up more than 30 days in the shop, and have the records, tell them you want a trade assist. thats what i did. PM me for details. You get full MSRP towards a new BMW

I highly recommend you don't step down to something with a lower grade interior.

I like the STi a lot but it would be hard to take that step back in interior quality and ride comfort. I had a blast with all my subaru's but the BMW fit and finish (never had a Subaru still rattle free at 30k miles) just ruined me for cars like that. At least as a daily driver. I'd still drive one for once in a while fun just wouldn't commute every day in it.
If you really liked the BMW finish and you like GTI's I would say look at Audi. They have a similar design quality and comfortable ride like the BMW and they can be very sporty. |
