Dinan Stage 2 Input please...
Anyone have the Dinan Stage 2 Performance Upgrade? Would like to have some feedback in terms of both performance and reliability.
No need to respond about other products, as I'm only considering the Dinan (because of warranty). |

You might want to do some research on that warranty before you pay the extra $1000 over something else to get it - there have been a lot of posts about it in the past.

I have it (i.e. Bought my car with it already installed). In my case it was CPO and came with 5yr/100k miles. And in my case I preferred to buy the car with these mods (Dinan 2 and Dinan exhaust) because I'm not one to go spend a lot out of pocket on additional mods.
Warranty: The key difference between Dinan and others is that BMW does recognize Dinan and any others should always be removed prior to any warranty or service to prevent any chance of warranty voids, etc. Now I will also admit that the Dinan "warranty" is not a total safeguard. You may have to deal with BMW vs. Dinan "whose at fault issues". I have no personal experience with this, but have read about others who have experienced issues. Additionally, you are stuck buying only Dinan products to avoid voiding that warranty. For instance, thier intercooler and oil cooler. If you were to run another aftermarket, warranty voided. Performance: The Dinan tune runs well and you will feel the difference. I have posted a best 1/4 mile of 13.04 @ 107mph. This is certainly not the fastest tune out there, but is notably quicker and faster than stock. Through research on this forum you will find that there are quicker, faster and just as reliable tunes out there for less money. Reliability: I really haven't had any issues to note that were caused by the tune. I have required software updates and a couple of corrections to sensors and such that caused CEL's. All of which were covered under BMW warranty. Dinan's site claims that the larger oil cooler is recommended. However, my oil temps haven't ever gone over 260 F even with ambient temps over 100 F. Of course I'm not running autocross events though. If it's what you want, go for it. Oh...and save some extra money for rear tires!!!

^ One thing I read about getting the Dinan tune is that when it's installed Dinan notifies BMW of your tune and after your standard BMW warranty expires at 4yr/50k BMW will not give you an extended warranty nor can they sell your car as CPO.
How did you get yours CPO with 5yr/100k? ![]() |

I have the Stage 2. One of the big reasons I got it was the warranty. I can say from experience that they live up to the warranty and more.
I have been having a lot of problems with BMW and Dinan was fantastic. When I was having problems with getting service, Dinan called BMWNA and the dealership, letting them know that they would cover any costs BMW would not. I havenothing but good things to say about the way they have been helping me out. They say they will cover the costs, and they have for me. The tune is fantastic, you can feel the additonal power and it comes on nicely. As mentioned before there are more powerful tunes and less costly too, but with the amount of problems that are known with this car, BMWs repeated attempts to find aftermarket tunes on the cars, and the cost for service should one be found, I did not want to take a chance so to me it was worth the extra money up front rather than gambling on a service bill later. (and the good thing is that updates and reflashes are not additional costs. If BMW dealership messes with the ecu and overrides the Dinan, then you get it flashed back to Dinan at no cost.)

This is the primary reasons I've never gotten the Dinan tune. Now I want to call Dinan up and figure out how to extend the warranty past 4yrs/50k.

I was one of the first individuals on this board to get the Stage 2 flash. I've enjoyed it thoroughly and have not had any issues.

Is everyone in agreement that if you have a CPO, that by putting Dinan Stage 1 or Stage 2 on your car, will change your warranty to a 4yr/50 and you loose the additional warranty as provided by being a CPO? That blows.... My car was just certified as a CPO and I wanted to get Dinan since the BMW PK is so expensive.

Had mine for just over 2 years (original Dinan flash, before stage 1 or 2). Much faster than stock...no warranty issues, save for a bad HPFP...which happens on most stock cars.

I was not aware that if you had the CPO warranty it would be cancelled by installing Dinan, but that does make sense since Dinan would be covering the warranty and they only warranty the length of the factory warranty and not extended warranties. maybe you should give em a call and see if they have any suggestions or ideas to helpyou out,

A local dealership is offering a good deal on Stage 2. I am considering purchasing this. I don't really feel like buying the intercooler or oil cooler anytime soon since it is an expensive purchase already... I do like how the warranty is matched w/ the factory's. I won't be doing any track events at all.
I am still not sure if I am going to keep the car after the factory warranty, although I'd still have one more year paying it off. Can anybody chime in on Stage 2 w/o additional cooling, for DD? Thanks.

Still up in the air about it. I am considering the BMW Performance Power Kit, or nothing at all. I just read Orb's 11-page thread on Dinan and am not too sure the car once the warranty is expired... dunno what the long-term effects are on the turbos themselves.

![]() as far as DS2 its performance is uneventful = in a good way... no cells, no errors, no messed up plugs ,etc. It just works. from what i hear it also responds to higher octane ratings. it's fast enough for me. night and day over stock. ppp

The Dinan tune seems to completely eliminate any lag you thought you had, probably eliminates the throttle tip in.
As soon as you press the gas pedal it feels like a big V8 with lots of torque, easy to slide the tail around turns, with the slightest press of the pedal. It seems to be more powerful when you don't need it and less powerful when you do, as in full throttle on Autos. Its too bad you can't have multiple tunes that you can select depending on how aggressive you feel. For the most part it would be nice to have stock performance until you depress the detent switch which would enable the high performance map ~ 15psi ![]() Last edited by Dr_Dirt; 03-10-2010 at 08:34 PM.. |
