Michelin PS2 Question

One thing that's struck me since putting on the Wintrac Xtremes is how much wuieter they are than my Ultrac Sessantas (which only have about 5000 miles on them)

So I'm pondering on changing to PS2's but as far as I can see they don't have the XL rating, does this matter at all?

I've checked the sizes directly on the Michelin website, 225/45/17 and 255/40/17. I'm guessing it doesn't really matter but it still confises me how you can hae a tyre rated for >140mph in XL and non-XL variants.

XL just means extra load.

Both tyres will have a number stated alongside the speed rating which gives you the actual 'load index'. Which is the load that the tyre is rated for at the maximum speed.

The load index for the PS2's is 91

On the vred's with the XL rating it's 94

Y means 186mph.

The PS2's can take 615kg at that speed, but the Vreds can take 670kg

The think that the load index on the standard fit 17 inch Bridgestone run flats is 91 and the speed rating is W. So in short you are totally covered with either tyre.

OK, so as long as I'm not transporting a boot-full of paving slabs at 186mph then not a problem

Yes that's pretty much the idea.
