Should i get Winter Tires installed at Delivery?

I am picking up my 335i sedan on Oct 31st at the BMW Gallery in Calgary, AB.

I bought the winter tire package through BMW and i am wondering if it is late enough in the year to put on the winter tires for when i pickup the car, or should I leave the summer tires on for a bit still?

when does everyone else put on their winter tires?

For the past 5 years I've done it sometime in November. Conditions like now when it hovers around 10 during the day and dips to borderline freezing at night aren't cold enough for me to haul myself to the garage to swap them So I usually wait for the first day of snow which is typically very light and not nearly substantial enough to accumulate on the road, the type that just makes it wet but not icy, then I'm sure to change it that day or by that weekend.

I can't really comment on your situation though as I really have absolutely no idea how winter conditions typically are in Alberta.

Edit: Just read your post again and noticed that your car will be arriving with summer tires, I'd most definitely have them swapped on the 31st before delivery. Wouldn't want to get ambushed by the first snow of the year if it's earlier than usual! Plus if you can't do it yourself at home, it might be heck finding a place or even making an appointment at the dealer to have the labour done when everyone else has the same idea.

I live in Calgary and always try to get my winter tires put on before the end of October (did it last week). Just not worth the risk of having bad weather; summer tires are lethal on ice and snow.

I was supposed to be picking up a new 330i from Calgary BMW last week, but haven't been able to sell my 325iT, so I got a set of Michelin Pilot Alpins for the old car.

For those who get winter tires put on, where do you keep your summer tires? If I got new winter tires from the dealership would they store my old tires, since there is no room in my apartment in the city?

bg 27: change them if you have the sports package tires, they are not designed for temps below 40F.

Mechanicallion: Tire swing for every room if you have kids. Some tire stores will store them for a fee. Email Gary at Tirerack and ask him who to work with in your area. Or sell the bimmer and buy a house.

End of October

Two other benefits
:
1) It will save you another trip to the dealer (waist of time & $) and avoid you loosing a day with your new toy.

2) When you put back on your summer tires in the Spring ... you will say "Wow" that's a nice looking car, is that my car? and HHHHuuuuhhh, it really handles so much better ... it's got to be on rails

I have always tried to get mine on around the middle of November. I just received a brochure from BMW trying to sell me some winter tires (I alread bough some at TireRack) and in the brochure it says that you should change to winter tires once the average temperature goes below 7C. Warmer than that and you run the risk of wearing out your winter tires quicker than you want and colder than that and the summer tires won't grip as well as you like.

If I were you I would just go ahead and have them put the winter tires on at delivery. As others stated, it will save you a trip to the dealership.
