Thoughts on a Photo Enf ticket I just got
I have never, ever gotten one of these, and I'm even questioning this one, but I'll let you guys decide. Far right lane is where you're looking.

Well technically there was no stop. I believe a stop prior to the crosswalk is required, but I'm not sure in your city/state.
Sucks though! GL...

I guess in this situation, even though RIGHT TURN PERMITTED ON RED....... RED LIGHT should be treated as a STOP sign, which requires a full stop, then count till "one" "two" 'three" and then go... not doing FULL STOP means you "took it". That's why it's a video not just a photo.... they want to see and prove you went right through without stopping. I am sure they get many many many people caught this way at that corner... Sorry you got clocked but....
... it's a cool video, but I wouldn't want to have one myself Good heads up to all of us to be full alert out there!

I dunno. Looks like a failure to stop at a red light (regardless if traffic was turning, and technically is was "safe".) failure to stop is failure to stop????
But saying that, my house overlooks a park. At that intersection, there are 2 stop signs. ALMOST NOBODY stops at it. They either drive straight through (some are actually accelerating as they approach the intersection!). Worst part is most just treat it like they have the right of away, and a lot of cars brake so they don't t-bone them. But, cops don't stop either. So..... |

Failure to stop at red light is how the infraction is listed.

Yep, sorry. Didn't look like a full stop before the crosswalk to me. Gotta be extra careful on those photo enforced lights. Did they send you the video or something? Or do they upload it to youtube?

Had the pictures that come with the ticket, as well as a video of the infraction. I ripped it off the site and threw it up on YT. I'd lived in that area for 4 years and never had that happen. It was even purely incidental that I was where I was that day....bleh.

You definitely didn't come to a complete stop, which is an infraction.
However you might be able to get out of it by just claiming it wasn't you. Even w/pics of your face, I've heard of people getting out of it by standing by their claim that it wasn't them. It's very difficult to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that it was actually you. You just say that you let family & friends drive your car all the time and you're not sure who had it that day. On the other hand please learn your lesson and try to be a better driver in the future. Always come to a complete stop! At least you used your blinker though.

you have to treat red lights as stop sign when turning right. They started enforcing this rule in Houston. I've never gotten a ticket for this, but I've seen other people who were ticketed.

I hope that SUV on the left-turn lane got a ticket too. He was totally passed the stop line.

Yea failure to stop 100%. Plus stopping before the cross walk/stop line or where the sensor is in the road

Wow, didn't know they issued bs tickets like that with red light cameras, I thought they were just for blatant red light running. They've just been "approved" for use in NJ and I know the towns are signing up like crazy and predicting massive revenue - now I know why!
How 'bout the pickup sitting at the red in the crosswalk - did he get a ticket too? Who's "reviewing" the evidence and making these judgements on non-red light running tickets anyway? BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING AND HE WANTS AS MUCH OF YOUR MONEY AS HE CAN GET! |

Failure to stop. Hey your not the only one. My Father in Law got one, My Mom, My aunt, and a bunch of friends. Those F@cking things are making the state some money. I just look out for those things now and make sure to stop all the way and count to 5 before I make any movement.

Just so everyone understands, I'm not arguing whether or not I stopped. I know I didn't come to a full stop (close, but not quite, although the photo images on the ticket show 14MPH in a 2 second time lapse...not possible, since I had my brakes on (obviously)), I'm arguing whether or not there is a question of safety as a result. This is a common sense ticket. Nobody in the crosswalk, turn arrows for the alternate flow of traffic were on, etc.
It's a load of bullshit, and a physical cop would never have stopped me for that.

This isn't Georgia. This is the same place where it's common, and accepted, practice to routinely go at least 10MPH over the speed limit on the highways. Doesn't make it right, but the double standard is pretty ridiculous here.

I can't help but wonder why there was no green right turn arrow on the signal itself. Almost all intersections similar to that one around here allow people to turn right in that situation. The right turn arrow does not illuminate if the crosswalk is being utilized.

These sensors and cameras are set up to detect if the law was broken, by the book (full stop at the stop bar). A officer may have let it slide as they may have saw no reason to stop you.
