No runflats - MOT?
If you don't have runflats or a spare tyre - will the car pass the MOT?

I would think not as the run flats replace the spare.

I think the MOT requires only that if you have a spare tyre, it be in good working order. i.e You dont fail the MOT for not having one. (At least, thats what I vaguely recall)

So you'd have to have a spare in the boot if you took it in for MOT (presuming you were not running on runflats)
Edit - just saw e92-Mark comment!! Anyone know the definitive answer?

According to the leaflet "Your car and the MOT" from VOSA (The MOT agency) available at http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosacorp/publ...ngleaflets.htm "Spare tyres are not inspected".
I thought that if you had one, it had to be in good order, but were not required to have one.... You live and learn.... |

I have had previous cars (non RFT) pass when the spare was a rogue tyre (student days). So I can't see RFT tyres being a problem.

The e46 M3 doesn't have runflats but runs on normal (M3 dedicated) tyres and doesn't have a spare - they give you that tyre weld stuff.

The MOT doesn't require a spare tyre however if one is carried it must be legal

You are correct ...I didn't realise that this rule had been removed from the MOT some years ago. I checked with a mate who runs an independant garage.

not sure but will find out and come back to you,if you have a spare it has to be road legal, i would think that not having a spare is not a reason to fail the mot but will confirm.

If the spare is not legal, do you not have the option to remove it from the car before taking it to the garage for the MOT? The outcome being that they cannot fail you for having a non-legal tyre ??

http://www.mot-test.net/mock-test/wh...yres/index.htm The spare is not tested - It has been like that for the past 8 years at least! I always used to have a dodgy tyre as my spare during my poor student days |
