Is there any way to pull codes without using 3rd party tools? [Engine Malfunction]
Hello All,
I've searched the Forum and it seems like everyone uses the BT Tool to pull codes from their cars. I was wondering if our cars had a way to check codes like other cars do (I used to do this on my Subaru SVX by bridging a connector and counting how many times the check engine light flashed - like this). I am not opposed to buying a BT tool, but I have not had the need for it yet (I am bone stock) and I haven't researched the available 3rd party offers for code reading/clearing. I was just hoping there was a quick way to do this tonight by myself so I could determine whether or not I really MUST take her to the dealer (I don't want her to be messed with if I can avoid it). For the record: bone stock E92 as in signature, ~5600k miles. Engine stuttered while driving back home yesterday night, I was at normal traffic speed. Received "Engine Malfunction, reduced power, safe to drive" messages and managed to drive her home (~7 miles). The car would keep shutting off at lights if I let go of the gas pedal. Thank you in advance, -Walter PS= sorry for any redundancy, I have limited time before I return to work and couldn't find tangible answers after searching and reading a bunch of threads for several minutes.

As mentioned, I haven't had the time to do much research about this (will do soon). But according to your suspicion, is it safe to assume the HPFP issue wasn't addressed on 2009 models? Mine was built in April/May and I picked her up in June. :'o(
Is there a revised Fuel Pump they are installing, or they install the same exact one hoping it won't fail again? -Walter

+1 or get a 3rd party scanner like a Peake Tool or BT Scan Tool. The Peake tool has the ability to read and decipher the BMW specific codes which are different from the Generic OBDII codes.

if you're bone stock what's the big deal? take it to the dealer. you can't go around wondering whether you're going to be stranded on the side of the road. Ask for a loaner. sheesh. where's the fruitcake lady when you need her.

Peake works for cars up to 2007 so it would work for your model. It also resets SES or CELs.
