Scheerspeed detailed: Euro 1995 BMW Individual M5 wagon
the story on this one...
the current oner purchased this car from a collector who had purchased the car in europe, and after living there with it for a few years decided to move to the states and brought the car along with him. this car had 60,000 kilometers of mostly high speed autobahn driving, and a lot of performance work done to it, including many internal engine modifications, bolt-on modifications, and a header-back Eisenmann race sytem. this car is truly one of a kind. im not sure on the exact color of the car, but it was similar to Laguna Seca Blue. the interior was completely leather, even the door pillars were covered in alcantara. The paint was in decent shape considering it's age and never having been polished. pretty much all of the car for the exception of the hood had minor swirls that could be corrected using a two stage polish combination with Menzerna SIP and PO85RD. something i was not expecting was that the car had a single stage paint, except for the rear hatch because it had been repainted. on to the process and pictures. Cleaning Exterior -Wash -1Z Anti Insekt -CG CWC -Meg's mitt -P21s TAW -Wheels -CG CWC -P21s Wheel Cleaner GEL (allowed to soak in for 2 hours) -P21s TAW -EZ detail brush -Swissvax wheel brush -OXO tire scrubber -ARO -Wheel Wells -P21s TAW -DD wheel well brush Clay -Special yellow poly clay -ONR lube Polishing -Exterior paint -Menzerna SIP / orange Uber pad (2 passes) -Menzerna PO85RD / blue Uber pad -Makita 9227C -3M Yellow Foam Backing Plate -1000w halogen lights -ISA 50/50 wipedown -DD über MF towels -Racatac LSP -Paint -Swissvax Cleaner Fluid -Swissvax Mystery -FK #425 Quick Detailer -CG 530XL MF towels -DD Fluffy green "no name" towels -Wheels -Swissvax Cleaner Fluid -Swissvax Autobahn -Optimum QD -Adam's Undercarriage(wheel wells) -Swissvax Pneu Glass -Adam's Glass Cleaner Interior -1Z Cockpit -Leather Master Trio -Adam's Glass Cleaner -1Z Gummi Pflege The car was brought to me pretty clean, with the exception of inside the wheels and wheel wells. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() the clay came out pretty dirty from this car. i imagine it had been at least a few years since the last time it was clayed... if ever... ![]() ![]() the hood of the car had some very deep scratches ![]() here's a before and after on the hood after two passes with SIP. there were still some of the deeper scratches left, but the owner and I decided that it was best not to take off that much paint to take out those scratches due to the age of the paint. ![]() ![]() after doing a test panel, my next task was to touch up all of the rock chips on the front bumper. at first i was not going to do this because the owner could not get a bottle of the OEM touch up paint ordered from germany (since it was an individual color) in time. however while i was detailing the interior, i found a brand new bottle in the glove compartment that the owner didn't even know was there. here's how it looked before. it took me two hours just to apply the paint before i even got to sanding... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() i found a rather large chip of clear coat missing from the rear hatch. ![]() here the right side is polished and the left side is untouched. you can see how the left side has a slightly yellow hue to it due to the oxidation. the polishing removed all the oxidation and on the left side you can see the true color of the paint. ![]() more close-up ![]() another problem area was under the door handles, where there were many scratches from fingernails when opening the door ![]() ![]() and after ![]() ![]() here's the finished exhaust after polishing with Optimum metal polish. ![]() and the final result after spending many days working on the car. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() thanks for looking! The exact color of the car should have been on the touchup paint bottle, but it also might be on the placcard on the passenger side strut tower in pic IMG-7000? Maybe its clear enough in the original pic to make out.
Dom, Did you need to do anything special to remove the adhesive from the wheels weights? It looks like in the one pic there might still be some there. I need to remove A LOT and am just looking for any best practices. Thanks and looks great! |
