All except the last fill up I use 98 or 99 oct, the last fill up was 95 as I knew the cr was going to be laid up over winter and only used for short trips.

Only the amber nectar - V power 99.

The car is noticably crap with 95 or BP 'half-super 97' in it.

Might use Tesco 99 but we haven't got a tesco with a garage for miles around us, and they aren't on motorways / trunk roads either

If no shell around, i'll put £5 of something else in to get me to a shell station.

Luckily we have 4 shells within 2 mile radius of home to keep topped up.

Edit - just remembered Tesco have opened an express+garage nearby, might give the Tesco 99 a go - Evo mag rate it, so it can't be bad!!

I remember seeing a bloke in a brand spanking black 997 mk1 Turbo, carbon brakes - the lot, well over a 100 grands worth.

Filling it with bargain 95 slosh.

I nearly cried.

100% super so far - you don't buy a 335i to save the planet or money - so why would anyone put 95 in one??

I only use Shell V-Power. Hopefully it actually has all of the detergents and active ingredients as advertised.

I'm always sceptical as to what actually sits in the underground tanks. Could be any old crap.

As I said I use 99 oct when I can, but don't get too anal about it, the engine management backs the ignition off if it feels the need, so apart from dull performance, I wouldn't expect engine damage.

No damage you're right, but why pay all that for a performance engine, then stifle it with poor fuel?

Odd occasions you have no choice of course, seems in cornwall on holiday they don't have 99 yet....

Same in a pub, could be any old crap coming out of the stella pump, still gets you pissed though, just not in the same high octane wife-beater fashion that you pay a little extra for.....

Yes that's true but it's such a wonderful place to live, start a business, raise a family and surf, but you must keep that bit quiet.

Agree Doughboy, which is why I do use 98/99 oct, but don't get hung up if it's not available, I definitely would mess about with a fivers worth to keep me going.

Tbh I tried the 'good stuff' in my 330i M sport and noticed bugger all in any additional performance or responsiveness. Noticed a slight improvement in mpg but n'owt to write home about, maybe I didn't persevere with it long enough?

If I had a 335i then no doubts, I'd use the higher octane fuel as I do in the S5. In fact 98 RON is listed first on the fuel cap lid and 95 RON shown second.

As for that numpty you witnessed, what a tool he was!! I'd have been struggling not to walk over and say something. Maybe the car would be too powerful for him with proper fuel in. Sorry but I see so many being driven like miss daisy - gets my goat.

They will run on 95 octane and the OBC will compensate but you run the risk of a bit of engine knock and pre-ignition........why risk it!!

Am I reading this correct, or do I sense a bit of "pot calling kettle...."

How about me coming across to you at the filling station and suggesting you try some 'decent fuel' in your superb bit of engineering.

Why because I didn't bother putting V power in the 330i when I had it back in 2006, and the 330i engine will happily run on 95 RON?

If you read it correctly I said my fuel cap states 98 RON on the S5, thought it was obvious that's what I always put in it?

Both Porsches were always run on V power.

Alles klar.
