Anyone ever own a Dodge Ram 1500?

I'm thinking of picking up a used 06 - 08. How reliable are these cars?

Pretty reliable. My dad bought an 06 pretty much the week after it came out. We never had a single issue with it. My dad only got rid of it because he didn't have a need for a truck anymore.

The interior quality is not that great though. A lot of rattling.

Had an '00 2500 diesel years ago. The Cummins I-6 was a good engine but the body around it was crap. The doors were prone to rusting off - and they were also notorious for HPFP failure just like our 335s. The interior was just utter shit, but that's expected for a pickup I suppose. The dashboard plastic was the weakest I've ever seen. Ugh. One day I woke up and thought "What was I thinking?" like when you wake up next to an ugly chick.

We used to have an '03 Ram 2500 Hemi.

Oil pump went at around 40k miles for some unknown reason.

Should I get extended warranty on it? It's like $1000 for 60,000 miles

I'd say so. But it depends on what is covered. $1k isn't too bad.

my friend has had a couple older dodge rams. you have to get the cummins if your getting a dodge. interior isnt great, but its a truck so who cares.

his fuel pump blew out and its like $800 for a new pump. plus labor.

you can make the cummins real fast tho

Lol what other 07 quad cab can you pick up for $12k? They're pretty cheap so I guess that should tell me something. I think I'll get the extended warranty. Don't think I wanna take a chance and have the tranny fail or somethin

This, fuel pump failure is common.

On the Cummins, I think the ones that have fuel pump issues are the 1998.5 and later "24 Valve" Cummins. The '94 to '98 Cummins were all 12 valve motors with a Bosch P7100 mechanical pump. That particular engine, other than the "killer dowel pin", are bullet proof. Someone came up with a KDP fix with a jig, and that cured that problem.

I had a '98 Ram Cummins, bought with 98,000 miles on the clock. I sold it with 135,000 and had ZERO problems with the entire truck. I even cranked up the power with no ill affects. Factory crank HP was 180, mine dyno'd 250 at the wheels with less than $500 in upgrades. Factory PSI on the turbo was something like 16-17. I had mine turned up to 40.....

I also had a '95 Ram 1500 4x2. Never had any problems with it for the 3 years I owned it.

My current Dodge product is a 2003 Durango with 65,000 miles. No squeaks or rattles, and it is in great shape. A few minor problems that were all fixed under warranty (water pump at 30,000*, Reverse grear in tranny at 50,000.) Overall, I've been happy with it.

*PS - The water pump in 2007 335i shit the bed after 18,000 miles, so in that respect the Dodge kicked the BMW's ass......

I have a 2004 1500 quad sport 4x4 with 60K on it. I purchase it new and have not had a lick of issues with it. It has been a great truck, thirsty though 13.7 average. I tow my 9600lbs boat and it handles it great. The hemi is a very powerful engine. I was looking at Manhiem (dealer auction) and my truck would sell for 12K at the auction. Not bad for a 6 year old truck.

Go for it.
