320d 19" Tire Pressures

Guys I know this has been asked before but please can you help me out? I have had conflicting answers.

What tire pressures should I been running on a E90 320d with 19" wheels? The car usually has no more than 4 people in it. Most days it is just me and the missus.

Please let me know what you guys are running with similar cars.

I just got some new 19" wheels - it seems BMW recommend 35 front, 41 rear.

However the Bridgestone RFT tyres say do not exceed 40psi... which is conflicting !

I run 38psi front and 40psi at the back.

The 35, 41 combo are the equivalent bar readings from inside of the drivers door.

then they blame the car owner for running the tyres under the rec pressure when their rotten tyres wear on the insides!!!!

I think you are reading the Bridgestone onfo incorrectly. Are you sure you are not reading, never exceed 40 psi to seat the beads.

I've just looked at a 17" Bridgestone RFT and the max pressure reference is 51 psi.

Even on my own car (touring) the rear setting pressures for 19" run-flats, range from 3.0 - 3.5 bar (43.5 - 50.7 psi).

BTW, I do believe some of you guys could be much too low on run-flats and normal rubber, resulting in premature edge/shoulder wear.

Christ this is really confusing. I currently have 36 on the front and 39 on the back. Do you think this is about right or should I be looking to put more air in?

Are you sure? mine were quoted at 3 bar for the rears 43.5 psi.

i believe that is what is on the B pillar for 19"

i agree though, it does seem low.

Yep - sorry for the confusion, me not been very technical, I just thought it meant do not exceed 40psi.

Not fitted my wheels yet, but will be running 36 / 41 I reckon !

on my e92 on 19inch 225's it's meant to run normally on 2.4 bar front, 2.9 rear, heavy loads put on 0.5 bar front and back. However, running on 2.4 and 2.9 it crashes through the potholes (yes, I do try and avoid them but one of them is better than an uninsured driver down the old kent road!) and pressures feel too low - I therefore tend to agree with highlandpete and I run mine on higher pressures as I've had the shoulder wear and cracked alloy junk before when BMW didn't pay out...

Currently running normally (max 2 people) on 2.9 front and 3.4 back, and so far seems to be much more sure footed, doesn't crash around as much and will have to wait and see how the wear goes - keeping close tabs on it...

Anyone else run the full load pressures normally? Suspension might crash a little but the last thing I want is to sort out cracked alloys and have to go into bat about tyre wear....

Christ ... this thread prompted me to go check my pressures. I had new wheels fitted about a month ago and would like to think that they put the correct pressures in, since they supplied wheels and tyres.

How wrong I was!! 19" 225's were running at 27psi all around! It felt rather wrong pressing the button up to 38psi at tescos! It cost me 2 lots of 20p too!

I'm now running 38psi front and 40psi back. Hope that's ok!?

Wow, they would wear out quickly. Generally I do think there is a mental block, out there, to setting high pressures. It as if they are much too hard, but ultra low profiles have to be higher pressures to work as tyres. Even some tyre shops are not really uunderstanding it either.

Better to start at mid recommended range and tweak from there, than run below the base placard pressure and find tyres all worn prematurely, before you know it.

Yeah, i'm a bit concerned as i've run a couple of thousand miles in mine since fitted. Half tempted to ring them and kick off!

So you don't check them every couple of weeks then.

Personally I check tyres after any tyre shop, or the dealer have touched the car. My gauge, my pressures.
