College transfer students?

I understand how the freshmen admission/acceptance works, but never really understood how transfer student admission works.

Im thinking of transferring, somewhere local for now. Im not quite willing to go away too far nor stay here anymore(yeah, actually wanted to stay and graduate from this place about a week back, but that went straight to hell now). I want to stay where all my friends are so its easier to go through this tough time. but with my situation not getting any better and even worse, I feel I must get to somewhere different as soon as possible.

Im sending applications to local universities around here. As I was working on that, it got me thinking, exactly what & how do they take care of the "transfer student applications"? For new student admission, there are xx% of acceptance rate, blah blah, but what about transfer students?

Also, if the university you want to go to is already "filled" or too late to apply, is it a bad idea to go to local community college around that university for a term and apply for next term?

Any advice related to Transferring from one college to another will be appreciated. Thanks.

well i dont know much about oregon's college status but here in california... but if you need help to transfer into a college i'd advise you to talk to the admission counslers for the college you want to go to and not the college your at... most likely if its a 4 year institution, they wont want to give you good info on leaving... if its a CC then its their job to help you transfer out

well transfering into a public school... from what i know about california public schools are faily easy to get in... you just apply for the winter, fall, or spring semester... and you should be fine... you would also need a transcript to transfer your credits from ur previous school...

what year are you? if you're still a freshman, plan ahead. if you plan to transfer from a community college to a better university, then check the transfer lists (whether subjects from your previous college and the community college will transfer to the next uni)
talk to the admission office of your designated school and ask about transfer, they should be able to help you out.
i suggest you photocopy all your classes' sylabus (past and present) then send it to the designated university and have them examine which ones can be transferred.
i did this and it helped. out of 6 classes, only 1 couldnt be transferred.
and lets say there's a community college nearby the university you're goin to, go to the community college first. usually most of the classes there will transfer to the university. this way you'll save lots of time and money
i'm in ohio state and there's a community college nearby, i took a lot of classes there (making sure that the ones i took will transfer to OSU) and it saved me 2 quarters worth of tuition fee which is around $15,000
i'm an international student so i dunno if our transfer procedure is different from locals, hope this helps

I transferred from a state school to a community college and had to get all the transcripts and weather or not they will accept them. Basically starting all over unless the school are somehow connected as far as transferring files.

hahaha SoYank those two words are often mis-spelled.

back2topic, thanks for all the input. Alot of are saying that seeing an adviser from that school really helps. I met my current university's academic advisor regarding some issues before and they couldn't tell me anything.

This community college im referring to supposed to be like "sister school" or something, working with the universities im applying to.

I guess I should actually go to the school Im thinking of transferring to and meet an adviser there?

transferring is pretty simple- all you need to do is earn a certain amount of credits required by the college you're transferring to. Once you've completed that just apply to that college. I went to De Anza and they had agreements with many colleges around here. For example- I am guaranteed to be accepted into SCU as long as I have completed all the required units and earned at least a 3.5 GPA.

Try www.assist.org It will tell you what classes to take and also shows you the agreement(s) between your current school and your future one. G'luck

all the cupertino schools from elementary to highschool are really competitive for public schools... i mean for faria (i went there back when i was a kid) parents had to put their children's names into a lottery in order to be accepted into the school...

de anza is probably one of the better funded CC's thats why its so good at contacts w/ other collleges...

i woulda went to scu but i dont know... the college experience would be pretty different from going somewhere a little farther...

Go see your counselor... even if you think you have all the credits and documents/applications ready, you should still see your counselor.
