335i gearbox an clutch problems???(manual)

335i manual 2007 model

i have had my 335 for about 7 months now an i have had a few problems so i thought id share them with you guys an maybe get an answer to wats been happening..

all was fine for the first coupe of months of buyin my 335, i had no problems until my 3rd month wen i noticed the clutch had started slipping very slightly, and obviously got worse over the next few days. I rang up the dealership an they told me to book it in the garage but they were booked up for the next 2 weeks.. so i decided to call up the bmw recovery and told them my car was not safe to drive and needed to be recovered, they finally assisted an ensured me that all work would be done within 48hrs and my warranty will cover the clutch as i had recently baught the car.. so 48hrs later im picking up my 335 with a brand new clutch .. so i thought!!!

So another month goes by and car seems fine new clutch bedded in and decided to remap her and dyno ended up in 358bhp 410ft torque, very happy.

the next month we had loads of rain so me an my mates decided to take our cars down a near carpark at night and do a bit of drifting and wide donuts and just generally havin a laugh in our cars, i took mine round the car park just kicking the back end out of her and trying to get a nice wide drift out of it and it was just slipping so badly almost as if the traction was still on or sumthink... Suddenly it just lost all power an the car come to a stop..

i tried to start it back up an it wouldnt, so i took the key out and put it back in put my foot on the clutch and started it, vooo vooom she started but my clutch stayed stuck to the floor, i couldnt get a gear at all an she wasnt going anywhere.... so once again i called out recovery and of she went back to the dealers..
1 week later i get a call from the dealer after me awaitin a phonecall from them for 2 days, and the guy tells me its my fault i have welded the clutch plate to the fly wheel an burnt out all the components in the gear box.. "WTF.. its a brand new clutch and im not payin a penny" i said " an as for the gearbox thats ur problem cos you sold me the car" so after many arguements and patronising conversations with the dealer i finally got my point across.
the warranty manager said to me "have u driven it hard sir, because this may have been the problem"
i then said "you have sold me a 3litre twin turbo!! of course i drive it hard, so basically wat ur sayin is this car is not designed to go fast or be driven hard, WTF??
any way to cut an even longer story short, lol... basically they admitted in the end there may have been a problem with the gear box which resulted in this so they replaced the gear box, clutch, flywheel, master and slave cylinders... all under warranty.. i just wondered if anyone else had similar problems with their manual 335, or if anyone knows what it could be?? i have had my car put back to standard so i can run in my gear box an clutch without temptation, but i dont want to remap again if its gonna keep killing clutches an gear boxes cos the next ones probably wont be replaced for free.. so thanks for reading and appreciate any input..

I guess no one posting back could be a good thing, as no ones had similar problems? Maybe it was just a faulty gearbox.

First I'm hearing about this kind of issue. My car's going in on Monday for some tranny issues(I think synchros on 5th are "off"). I will report back if they say something else.

The car is not meant to be drivin' like a go-kart, buy a honda for that nonsense. Donuts, drifting, remaps'. = no warranty on the clutch.

You gotta pay-to-play.

^+1 .. I agree there ... you can't expect something to not break if your driving it like that.

ok maybe from how i wrote it sounded to people like i was abusing the car, but im talkin about a 2 min drift guys if that and then 1 donut. surely a car like this should be able to handle a bit of wheelspin??? i know it has no LSD but neither did my 325 or 330 and they all had no problems clutch related.. maybe its the torque im pushin through my clutch??

an about the honda? maybe i should buy a old motor to mess about in but theres nothing better then kickin the tail out on a 335i.

Maybe it has something to do with how you're "bedding the clutch"?

Let me know how you got on mate, did they fix under waranty??? im glad this thread has been some use as im sure there was a gearbox problem in some 335i's, in the end they fitted an uprated clutch, brand new gear box, master cylinder, slave cylinder, clutch plate and ive had no problems since, obviously they new it was down to their fault as they changed everything for free and they said it would of cost me £8000. best of luck budy

I had my clutch replaced because it was slipping. I could barely drive the car to the dealer. The shop foreman told me to remove the CDV value and that should fix the problem, but he warned that doing that will void the warranty so it I'll take it off and if the clutch slips again, ill put it back on.

My story is exactly like yours....

My clutch was replaced already and I have the same problem again with 60 000km on the Odo.

I think this has to do with the activation of the clutch with the Clutch Delay Valve.

When driving hard or dragging you basically apply full throttle and the slow activation of the clutch causes slip.

The problem is, the longer you do this, the more it starts slipping.
Add in a donut or 2, with a gearchange in the mix, then more slippage occurs and depending on how much wear there already is.....pop goes the weazle.

last night I noticed some slippage under spirited drivind and will be replacing the CDV with a modified unit (burgertuning).

It will be interesting to see if the modified CDV extends the clutch life.

Lets hope so I dont need to have the same fight with the agents. I know the usual speech is that the clutch is more than capable and it must be because of driver error or abuse but that is why we paid so *&^&(*( much for the car....so we can play.

That is something that I would not admit too.

I think that it has more to do with the nut behind the wheel needing to be re-torqued. Sounds like it is a bit loose.

they said that the flywheel had burn marks on it from being stressed or dumped 1 too many times like someone was diving the car to hard.Let me stress that i do not do doughnuts or burnouts as i would love to but i don't want to break my car (ironic huh).
i have contacted a lemen law lawyer and he is exited to sue BMW over this matter if needed. Honestly i just want my car fixed. Any advice guys?

Sounds like a lot of you guys are burning them up with the driving habits and 400+ RWTQ tunes. It's just a stock clutch remember...higher capacity aftermarket ones are usually necessary if you bump the engine output of any car significantly past stock.
