First Service Cost

Car is a 2008 e92 320i. Only has 10,600 miles on it so the CBS is saying that it needs the first service in view of time expired (2 years) as opposed to mileage. Dealer has confirmed that is just oil, brake fluid and microfilter.

I know I can save a bit if I supply my own oil but I can't be bothered with the hassle but the dealer has quoted a rather unpaletable £274.

Worth phoning around (no other dealers that close) or are they going to be the same?

Perhaps contact Anneka at Sytner Ian.

When mine was due it cost £137, I supplied oil and brake fluid. When I was there I also picked up a new microfilter and did that myself and reset the OBC.

I guess that would have been around the £210 mark all in, Will?

Yes, £55 for the oil, £12 for the brake fluid, microfilter around £30 if I remember rightly.

Works out a little more than £210 but still a saving.

Thanks Anneka. Very kind of you if there is a deal to be had at Sytner Coventry for a long-term customer

I wouldn't think twice about doing it myself if the car was out of warranty but with only 10000 miles on it I don't want to scupper the resale or handback process for a few quid - but nearly £300 for an oil and brake fluid change is a little steep.

Understandable getting it done proper and the book stamped, I was referring to having your pants down by the dealer supplying the oil.

Anneka was able to get me a great deal - I won't say exactly how much as prices will vary geographically anyway due to different operating overheads, but I'm a happy camper.

Thanks Anneka - it's great that Anneka and Darren from Sytner take an active interest on here with their customers, other dealer groups take note!!

What does the car indicate for micro filter ? My car doesn't show just Front brakes, rear brakes, MOT, inspection, brake fluid and oil change. When I took it for its first service the adviser said an oil service plus micro filter was due by reading the key information.

Pre LCI cars have a separate service interval for ventilation microfilter, so the idrive lists it separately.

Post LCI cars change the microfilter with EVERY oil change, so the car doesn't list it separately.

I took mine to Darren Wood BMW specialists in Bredbury,

Oil & Filter & Micro filter

£30 labour (45minutes)
£10 filter
£17 micro filter
£50 My own oil (pukka silkolene pro S)

Grand total £107...

With brake fluid it would have been an extra £20 labour and £10 for the fluid.

Book stamped, OBC reset, and most importantly - very happy that car is worked on by skilled, time served mechanics who love their job and take pride in their work, not some e-head 18yr old ex kwik-fit fitter now bashing out services at BMW dealers...

They (as most good BMW indies) will even handle warranty claims direct with BMW - so I'm never going to the dealers again.. - ever hopefully.

Although I can see that this may not be worth if for those who want to sell on early....
