Attention Virginia Drivers
This has been in the news and I received an email from Escort with this info. If you are like me and want to see Virginia's ban on radar detectors repealed, please take the time to write your Delegate and State Senator.
Dear Virginia Radar Detector owner: We thought you might be interested to know that Virginia State Delegate Joe May (R - Loudoun & Clarke Counties), Chair of the powerful Joint Committee on Technology and Science in the Virginia House of Delegates has introduced legislation, HB 674, a bill that would repeal Virginia's radar detector ban. The proposal to end Virginia's ban on radar detectors passed the House Transportation Committee which voted 11-10 to advance Delegate Joe May's legislation to a floor vote before the full Assembly. Proposed House Bill HB 674 – 2010 Virginia State General Assembly A BILL to repeal 46.2-1079 of the Code of Virginia – repeals prohibition on the use of radar detectors in motor vehicles. The National Motorists Association (NMA) says, "… despite the lack of any positive benefits, Virginia is the only state that bans the use of these common devices. In the past three decades, there were over 100 attempts in 33 states to enact similar bans, but only in Virginia and Connecticut did these misguided efforts succeed. Connecticut repealed its ban in 1992, and it is time for Virginia to do the same." We agree. We encourage you to take a few minutes to contact your Legislator to let them know that you support Delegate Joe May’s HB 674 bill. Please call or send your comments including your full name and voting residence address immediately to your district Assembly member(s): Virginia General Assembly Legislator lookup: http://conview.state.va.us/whosmy.nsf/main?openform

VA is a back-arse, redneck state (trust me, having lived there the past 6 years has at least taught me that much). I highly doubt it will pass, as most elected officials will be worried about the deficit and how to MAKE money, not how to enact laws that will reduce the state income due to less tickets being handed out.
In the minds of these idiots, radar detectors being used means that the cops are "outsmarted" and will be writing less speeding tickets. Good luck with this law getting passed. |

There's a hill to climb based on the vote.

Dude, no doubt. All the highways in VA are engineered to trap people. I freaking hated driving in that state, not to mention the further north you go of Richmond the worst that traffic gets....miserable.

Instead of RD's being illegal, they need to have a bluetooth law. So many clueless drivers are just on their phones.
