Review of Canadian International Auto Show
Went to Media Day today. Not as good as prior years as too much focus on "green" and not enough on performance for my taste.
Still, some interesting highlights that I saw: 1) BMW: First time sitting in the new X6 M. Very cool (and totally crazy). Also had a new Z35is. Very nice upgrade (about 30 extra hp and 30 more torque) on what is already the nicest 2 seater hardtop convertible. I was disappointed that they didn't preview the 2011 5 series. 2) Jaguar: Saw the new XJ. Looks more like the XF in styling. Not so much old school any more. Very beautiful interior (and big inside). Nice choice for folks who won't buy German. 3) Mercedes: Very nice premiere of the new E-Class convertible. Going against the trend it is a soft top. Very beautiful. They also took the sheet off the new gull wing (I think it is overdone). Best bargain still has to be the C63... going for $63,500 list and a screamer. 4) Audi: Showed the R8 roadster. Very pretty. Nicer looking then the coupe (and even nicer than the car model showing it off). 5) GM: The new Buick Regal is nice. It is a rebadged Opel that just won Car of the Year in Europe so hopefully they didn't dumb it down too much. 6) Chrysler: Subdued. But there were some Fiats at the booth so a step in the right direction. 7) Ford: Very nice new Focus. Small but looks very well put together. 8) Hyundai: One of the best looking new designs at the show was the new Sonata. 4 cylinder mid-size family car. Nicer than an Accord, Camry, Mazda6or Altima. Also, the 4 cylinder makes almost 200hp (best non-blown engine in the class) so it might make some noise in the market. Hyundai always was well priced, then they finally got the quality right and now their designs are top of the class. Great suggestion for the mother-in-law. Very nice Shelby exhibit if you like historical stuff. Enjoy the show! |

Btw does BMW have a VIP booth this year for owners... or is it still just Mercedes?

The only 3 series I saw looks like the current one. No update there.
Didn't see any VIP area at BMW but Mercedes had a nice glassed in second floor over their booth so maybe that was their VIP area. Sorry about the lack of pictures... enjoy the show. |

I went to the VIP night on Thursday, pretty good turnout from the manufacturers but you could tell it is still toned down from previous years.
No 335is, but there is a Z4-sdrive35is. No new 5-sedan, but the 5-GT was there - I was pretty interested in the double trunk/hatch (haha the engineer in me) Also a fully optioned 135i with the Performance add-onds, and a $200k sticker 760i Individual Oh, and a Gemballa Mirage GT outside in the main hall in the Pfaff booth |

I went today, loved the individual colour on that 7 series. The new Z4is was nice as well.
