Ahhhh my first chip

Will include pics later when I get my camera charged... I noticed a small ~ .5in chip in the paint above the rear passenger wheel well today... down into the metal from what I'm sure was a rock, damn trucks on 287 kicking rocks all over the place. How should I go about repairing this and will the clear bra I am getting put on this week prevent future issues in this area? Thanks!

I was just about to post about this, seems to me the paint is a little softer than past cars? I have 2K on mine and many more little nicks than I can keep up with.

The clear is only being applied to the front nose correct? It will only protect what is covers.

Sorry about that bro, you sholud've tried to get that clear bra from the get go. 5" is kind of big. Body shop can repair the area and repaint. After your repair have the clear bra applied. Should help in future bumps and bruises on the road.

From your subject line, I thought you chipped your car. Would have been nice.

Oh well, sorry about your chip then.

Did you mean 1/2 inch chip or 5" chip. I would easily tackle a 1/2 chip repair but 5" and down through the paint is world's difference to me anyway. Sorry to hear about it anyway.

I know how you feel, but there is no way to prevent. The clear bra does help, but it seems like they will hit where there is no clear bra, so you never win. Just remember "chips happen."

Chips add character. (That's what they say at least.)

From the sound of it, the clear bra wouldn't have prevented your chip since the bra covers this area:

The 3m one covers more of the hood and the fenders.

yeah i had my first chip last week on the bonnet right next to the bmw badge it made quite a dent as well, about 1cm around, anyway took it into a company in the uk called chips away they had someone pull the dent out took 3/4 hour to pull out and paint in the chip, because the bonnet is lined and hard for them to get there tools under it they couldnt pull the dent right out but enough for someone not to see if it was there, the paint in job shows up when the sun hits it but its better then seeing metal, whole job cost £45 pound and i have the paint
