My new 335d Tuning/Remap - What do you guys think?

Hello E90......

I'm new to the site - but not to BM's..........
325tds..... 330d(2000)....... 330d(52 plate)............... 335d last week! 2007 model

Any practical advice on tuning remapping of the 335d - from owners please, not wannabees

Like a few of the websites say, they don't quote mega power gains just to get your business - they concentrate on actual "driveability" - which is what i'm after

Not that its not quick enough - boot it on anything but a perfectly dry road and the back end squirms and the DSC flashes - and thats in a straight line not just on bends

Be nice just to hear from other 335d owners and their experiences etc

I'm in Leigh Lancashire - Brabbs Motor Works in leigh are highly recommended for anyone looking for a decent Indy BMW garage.........

how much was the DMS remap??

Anyone heard of More-Bhp?

They're in Middlewich just off the M6 near me and offer an upgrade for £225

which gives.......

Brand: More-BHP
BHP Before: 286
BHP After: 317
NM Torque Before: 580
NM Torque After: 640

Plenty of places offer 340-350bhp - but is that too much for the car to handle?

I bought the Evolve switch and found it excellent. More driveable around town and a great power surge when you put your foot down.
It really did transform the car.

I am very happy with Evolve as well. You have a choice of mappings. Mine is 350HP and 730 Nm.

I have absolutely no connections to More-BHP..........

In fact as an update i went down there yesterday as they're only 40 mins from me............

He read my car file - and 20 mins later came back and said - "Your car is already mapped"

That probably explains why in a straight line the back ends squirms for grip when you boot it............ but as i'd only ever driven it as it was, i had nothing to compare it to...........

I've just written to the previous owner for some details of when/where etc

For that price it would seem they are buying the maps from somewhere, so they are simply loading it up parrot fashion as an 'agent'. It won't be made by one of the main players either for that price.

For mapping, rather than plug-ins, I would personally stick with a company that does their own R&D and has the in house skills and knowledge and testing facilities to make the product themselves.

People like (in alphabetical order

Evolve

I would not buy a car that has been remaped, especially a sports one. It would be less valuable to the previous owner in a trade in.

This does not mean I would not remap a car for my own pleasure just that when I buy one I want it standard and unmolested. You won't know how this car has been treated or what's going on internally. All you know is the previous owner liked to thrash it.

That's a similar ethos to finding a new girlfiend??

You're right in a way, but it depends how old the car is and what evidence of maintenance and additional care the onwer can provide.

Also what the owner is like, where the car is kept and so on are more important factors to me.

I'd rather buy a well-loved and modded car privately from an enthusiast than a standard motor from a dealers that's been thrashed mercilessly (unknown to you) by some goofy sales rep for 2 or 3 years.

And I would also say most people who spend their hard earned cash /time on improving or looking after their cars DO NOT thrash or mistreat them at all.

That is the preserve of rentals/company cars/and mass market non enthusiasts, just the kind of lovely 'standard' cars you find all over dealerships......

Hi

The comparison between a mapped car and a new girlfriend is highly amusing. When they are traded in they are both sh***ed.

Wouldn't disagree with most of that. I wouldn't buy the other cars either. Having said that I would not be pleased if I did buy a second hand car and found out it had different 'history' to what I thought. I would always try and buy a car that I knew the history of.

Agree - but that can be a tricky one if the selling owner doesn't tell the dealer/trader/purchaser about mods etc.

Could be interesting if you bought a car in good faith, but it had some mods you didn't know about and then your insurance rejects a claim because you didn't declare the mods.

Or the engine blows up and it turns out its mapped and no one told you!!

Wanting an 'unmolested' car is one of the reasons why I bought new - cost me an arm and a leg, but I KNOW it's been looked after.
