Durability of powder coating?
I am looking at getting custom powder coating VMR wheels. To those of you who had done that, are they as durable as the factory coloured finishes? That is, are they as resistant to stone chips and peeling as the factory finishes such as gunmetal and matte black from VMR? Would like to hear some first hand experience before getting them. If not, then I will just get the gunmetal or matte black wheels from VMR.
Thanks |

While I have no experience with powder coated wheels myself, it's a well known fact that a powder coat is much more durable than just paint alone.
A powder coat should be more resistant to rock chips, but I wouldn't expect them to take on a curb. If I remember correctly, VMR has started to do a clear powder coat over some of their new wheels for increased durability. If your willing to spend, go with a powder coat for sure. |
