Advice required with 225 style alloys and cracks

Hi guys,

sorry for posting a new thread, but I have not had any replies from the main 2 threads where i originally asked the question.

So my drivers side alloy has cracked again and I want to pursue it getting changed under warranty.

The first time it cracked was long before the whole BBCs Watchdog thing. I called BMW and they just ignored me saying it is not a warranty thing so i got the alloy repaired.

It has cracked again, not sure from the same place or a different.

So now I am wondering if it is worth even challenging BMW as it has been repaired, because I think they are just going to say sorry you have had it repaired before so can not help you?

What do you guys advice/think?

Aram

What diagnosis? You phone 'em up and tell them your tyre went flat. You went to Kwik Fit or wherever who decreed the tyre had gone flat because the rim was cracked. Is it OK for me to bring it in tomorrow for you to replace the cracked wheel under warranty? It is? OK, see you at nine....

If you don't tell them its been repaired, you'll stand a better chance IMO.

They won't charge you to look at it for sure.

If they take the tyre of to inspect, which i am sure they will then they will be able to see the repair.

There is a diganosis charge which is determined on how long it takes them to inspect and come to a decision...this is based on their hourly labour rate.

I am still not sure, part of says what the hell go for it, but the other parts says there is no way they will agree to it.

surely they must be prepared for people coming in to "see if my wheels are cracked" following all the publicity.

Just take it in for a check and make it clear that you do not expect to be billed for the pleasure.

stupid question but is there any way to find out if the wheel is cracked without putting it on a ramp or getting tyres removed? like for example, do the tyres deflate or go flat if they are cracked etc...

Im curious if mine are as ive hit a few nasty pot holes.

I just had mine replaced this week.
They said they had tollerances of how big the crack is depends on if they think its their fault or impact damage.
Bigger than 1mm usually means impact damage
