What do you think about the new AFE intake ?

http://afepower.com/shop/details_new...artno=50-81472

It may be my only option for my Power Kit-enabled car, because I can't do a Mr.5 intake (no room at all in the driver's footwell). Oh, and I don't want a DCI.

What do you think ? I would spend the money on it, if I would know it is on par with something like Dinan or Mr. 5.

Problems I see:

- The air ducts are too thin
- The airbox is too small and largely taken up by the filter
- The smaller intake duct directs the air to the filter's front which has no filter material (it is not an inverted filter, I checked), leading to turbulence.

Doesn't look like it could possibly be any better than stock really with a high flow filter and it looks like it is worth 300 bucks - for that kind of money it is cheaper to buy the overpriced Dinan unit which at least looks like it is worth something compared to that - I hope AFE never sells a single one of those!

Wow, whoever actually buys that should give me $100 bucks, since money is nothing to them... Wayyyyy too expensive. I wonder how many they have sold, lol.

I just wonder why nobody makes a kit for the Mr. 5 intake - it works best and could be quite inexpensive. For this money I would go with Dinan, but a drop-in filter worked quite well for me .

This thread turned into a worthless pile of talk about the price...I was hoping for a more technical approach...

Why do people say it works the best? There is no evidence it beat any of the CAIs on the market. Correct me if I a wrong, but he put down 390 rwhp on a Mustang Dyno.

now that i've seen it installed and considering the price, i think that this intake is a POS... it looks horrible under the hood and it's design is terrible..

Its simple: because Mr. 5 intake is a cold air intake on par with Stett (both are a pipe and a filter ) but it adds the stock flow to the total flow. It's a no-brainer.

I had AFE DCI intake and noticed no gains whatsoever over stock drop in. I have similar feeling about this one. Plus the price is way to high for a few hp if any.

Do you really believe that? That is simply conjecture based on no facts whatsoever. Until there is a testing between the two, this is just a guess. I am so heavily modded now that it wouldn't apply to very many if I did the testing.

I would be willing to bet the STETT would be at worst case identical to the Mr.5 and you don't have to hack up your intake box.

I would rather buy the Dinan piece for the same price if you ask me.

compare the total surface area of the filter on this kit to Dinan/Mr.5

Also compare the volume or capacity of air that can be drawn in via the snorkels (since they all have to draw cold air)

I think Dinan / Mr.5 win on both counts.

I'm not sure what the hell AFE was thinking when they designed a system that was so expensive... I mean how can they expect to sell enough to even break even on the R&D.
