335i jb3 ecu advice

Hi first post on here looking for some advice on tuning my 335i se auto.

I know evolve and dms do great remaps on dyno very well however I am in Scotland and to be honest don't really want to have to drive that far.

Would it be advisable going the piggyback jb3 way?

What map on the jb3 would be suited to run safely in a totally stock 335i auto tranny running on vpower? Would map 6 be pushing it?

What about when it comes to service time at the dealer, can i just unplug the p np version and thats it put it back when dealer gives car back?

I also have some warranty remaining, with the jb3 I assume this will still be intact since there is no way dealer can tell so long as its removed? ie no recorded logs of any sort that the dealer can pull from the ecu?

Any help would be great or if anyone reccomends any other options.

Maybe, but the easiest option would be to wait for the 335i Evolve switch.

To answer your question - map 6 would be pushing it on a stock car. Also, map 6 is without lag fix - this is only apropriate if you are running an older progman version.

I would say map 3 (12 psi) for daily drive and map 5 (14 psi) for special occasions. I would also recommend at least a high flow panel filter with any tune also.

With regards to dealer invisibility - JB3 is as safe as any option out there once removed.

With regards to JB3 v Evolve switch - each have their own benefits. JB3 however has many thousands of customers and has undergone very detailed end user testing inc detailed logs disecting exactly what the JB3 does to many engine parameters (boost, wastegate duty cycles, fueling etc). Although the Evolve switch is a solid tuning device - it is somewhat an unknown quantity to customers on the N54 platform as yet. Evolve have been remapping the N54 platform for as long as anyone though, and produce very solid tunes.

Both are great products - JB3 is more flexible and can be custom tuned from home, whereas Evolve use a flash solution to tune which is generally regarded as being superior to a piggyback.

The more options the better!

I would love to go to evolve I like what iv heard about them its just so far from me. Im sure iv seen them push out around 380-390bhp and over 400 ft lbs of torque with just a flash on stock car whilst still running under 1 bar boost.

Am I correct in assuming the ZF box in my car can handle the extra hike in power and torque with ease?

US octane ratings are different to ours - typically 4-5 points lower, so their 93 equals our 98.

Limp home modes on the JB3 are a thing of the past - these were sorted about two years ago.

The latest JB3 v2.0 is an accomplished piece of kit. You can run up to nine different maps ranging from 12 psi (for a stock car achieving 350 bhp) to over 17 psi (for use with full bolt ons including an upgraded intake, meth integration, FMIC, catless downpipes, oil cooler etc - this is good for up to 450 bhp) and pretty much anything in between.

A new software interface allows you to connect your computer to the JB3 from within your car to update the software versions, perform data logging and to custom tune to suit your particular modifications, fuel, climate and altitude. The new tuning interface will also enable a car to be tuned to run aftermarket turbo upgrades also - which could yield well beyond 500 bhp.

The power levels achievable with JB3 (and Procede) are pretty much set in stone now - as they are governed by the amount of boost that can be sustained. The latest developments in the piggybacks is regarding the delivery of the power - which has become more linear and civilised over time.

Excellent info, thanks.

I would assume map 3 to be ideal then for a little bump in power then without sacraficing too much else?

Are you running a manual or auto? I am slightly concerned about how the auto box will cope, surely the jb3 doesnt alter the tranny control unit mapping? Please can someone shed some light on this, the last thing i want is for my gearbox to shift 1k rpm lower and half a sec slower every shift just because of upping the power and it not knowing what to do!

Iv seen plenty of clips with jb3's and autos but no one actually discusses the implications on gearbox in terms of how it drives, maybe I am missing something and this auto box is different and better and maybe learns itself dependent on mods?

I am manual - and therefore have no problems with the box.

I do know of one forum member that has had a problem with shift points after a remap. He has reset all of his gearbox adaptations recently and his early findings have been positive. The problem with the auto is that it learns / adapts and then locks into the torque curve for that engine and holds onto it - AFAIK there is no ongoing adaptation with this gearbox.

I am running the 1.2 JB3 on my 335i and have had it on for a few months now.

Waiting to switch the chip to 2.0 when its available (is it available now?) as hopefully it will make a difference.

I have had zero transmission issues with mine and it shifts exactly as it did before.

If you want to fire along the M8 one evening you are welcome to a shot of mine / do some motorway dragging to see the difference

How about my Procede V3 PNP Rev 1 for £100. Just sitting on the shelf now. Never had any problems with it. Can show or help you to install it. Without it the 335i is way slow. You'll be amazed at the performance increase once its adapted. Ran a 4.289sec 0-60 with the rest of the car stock.

PS uses manual switch to change maps.
